Africa is a wonderful, diverse continent - its societies have been ruined by tinpot dictators like Mengistu, Mugabe and other Western-educated socialists.

As a black man, I'd much rather live in Ian Smith's Rhodesia than Mugabe's Zimbabwe. Mugabe has made the country a living hell, and the West practically put him in power.

The answer for all African societies is to respect individual rights, including property rights, and to allow free markets. Socialism means poverty and death.

Of course, as a Brit you would say that. Africa is only a shambles because its former rulers did not care about anything but what they can take our of the continent. No country or people are a waste of space and everybody has a right to freedom in their own country.

The money is not being put into the right places and corruption is rife among those in control, because of the poverty, it's devastating because with the right input Africa could thrive and become a league of it's own, a beautifully country with masses of potential, and some of the most wonderful people you could meet.
Africa is trying to pay off massive amounts of depts to the richer countries and cant ever make a dent because it is just paying off the interest, that's why old Bob G, was trying to wipe out it's dept, G8 convention...pah! a joke really,
Africa is struggling to survive because of the likes of this country! and those who are rich enough to make a real difference but don't.

There needs to be some kind of intervention, but if we do the whole world and the liberals will scream that we're nation-building, and expanding our evil democracy where it doesn't belong. The U.N. won't do anything, they didn't in Rwanda and the refuse to call what's happening in Sudan a genocide. Clinton sent in troops but they couldn't even fire at marauding gangs of marxist thugs while they were sacking villages, unless fired upon. They could watch, though. It was better under colonial control, which should be the job of the U.N. if it had actual fighting troops and wasn't completely corrupt.

Your the only waste of space i see. So i guess you didn't know that after the middle east Africa is the next big oil provider. And America, Britain and China seem to be in a scramble to get there hands on it. Obviously corruption and exploitation means that the poverty issue is not going to improve.

No, of course Africa isn't a waste of space. They just have to wait their time, in the scheme of things. For instance, once the western world decides they have exploited China, and its cheap labour, (and China recognises it), then they will turn to Africa. Those people now dying in Africa, will then at least have a chance of life.
