I have an 87 toyota camry 4 cyl. 205,000 miles. I was driving down the freeway when my car lost speed and just made to an exit and as soon as i got to the stop light my car turned off, and the brake pedal got stiff as well as my steering wheel. i got itto turn on again but now i could hear a rattling noise in front. Got it to turn on but after a few yards, it would turn off again.

I'll assume you have gas in it?

LOL

the wheel and brakes will most always get stiff when the engin is turned off. You lose the power steering and power brake functions.

Check your timing belt mine broke about 1 month ago done the samething it cost me almost 300.00 with a belt, new water pump and labor. It could have jumped timing take valve cover off and see if the cam marks line up or if belt is broke, if is get a belt and water pump because its best to change it since they will be right at it when they change the belt.

Sounds like you have major engine problems. Take it to a mechanic and get an estimate.

your alternator could have died. if your car lost all power it is probably linked to your battery, which is probably your alternator causing this issue. can you turn on your lights? alternators are around $70-80....not hard to put in either..

Considering the age and mileage, I would say that your car is dying a slow death.
