Humans are often characterized by there ability for abstract thinking. Physiologically and anatomically speaking where do these thoughts originate?

I don't know anything about neuroscience, so my two cents will be somewhat worthless to you; however, it is a safe guess that absract thought and other higher order processes take place in the frontal lobes.

However, the real reason I'm answering this question is that it seems to be more of a philosophical question than a scientific question. In essence, you have asked, "Where is the human soul"? I'm guessing that neuroscience has not yet identified the higher order structures that can fully answer this question. Some people might even say that such structures do not exist, and that the human soul resides extracorporeally, a gift from God...

Right behind your forehead. If you concentrate on how thinking feels in your head, you can feel the thoughts forming there.
