Okay, for school, we had this thing called, "College Week" okay. And on one day of that week, we had "career day", so we had to dress up as what you wanted to be when you grow up. I dressed up as an ECHOCARDIOGRAPHER. Does anybody but me know what this is? Because everytime someone asked me what I was, I said, "An Echocardiographer"
"What's that?" was what they said back to me.
I mean, I guess I'm more intelligent than most people, and I'm in 6th grade!!!(7th when the school year ends)
I mean, even some kids in HIGHSCHOOL didn't know what that was!!! WEIRD!!!

(Srry if this is in the wrong category, they don't have one for Careers)

Well, of course teachers knew what this was!! If you were stupid enough to think, "Teachers didn't even know what this is?"

Yes, a lot of the kids probably didn't have a clue what you were talking about. Too bad for them... and good for you! Don't worry about it, it isn't worth your time or effort.

Think about how you decided to become an echocardiographer. I would be willing to bet that someone in your family had cardiac tests done, or that you took a tour of a hospital and were exposed to this profession, or that you read about it in a book. The fact that others didn't know what it was probably means that this was outside their personal experience - their family members didn't have these health problems, they took a different tour, or they read a different book. That's why getting broad experiences in life, whether directly or through literature, is important; the more you are exposed to, the more you know.

I'm a little bothered by your assumption that others who didn't know about this were stupid. They probably know about things you don't too, and could therefore assume that you were the stupid one. I'm not suggesting that you aren't intelligent; I'm sure you are, but don't get too arrogant about it. You can share your knowledge with them, they can share theirs with you, and everyone becomes more knowledgable. I've been a college professor for almost 30 years, and (I hope!) that I know many things about my subject matter that my students don't know. Every year, however, I learn something new from my students too. I hope that we all grow from the process of exchanging information.

I know, but that's from studying for college boards and then maintaining my language skills and reading habits. If you regularly break up words like this into "echo" "cario" and "graph", then you get the meaning of the word pretty directly.

Good choice, though! I hope you had a good time explaining (nicely) to people what your plans are. I'm sure a lot of peopl ecan handle the concepts; they just don't separate the various greek roots on the fly.

Well, as an adult with heart problems, I know what you're speaking of, but, the normal person, who has no history of heart trouble is not going to be expected to know this kind of thing.. Lighten up a little bit..
If you had said "EKG tech", or something like that, they might have had a better chance.. don't let your head swell because you know some big words and have checked into what you want to do when you grow up.

Look, you're in the 6th grade and seem to think you're cool and like super smart for knowing a big word. Just the fact that you're dressing up at school as what you want to be when you "grow up" says a lot.

Don't sweat it. The same thing happened to me when I was your age and said I wanted to be a herpetologist. ^^
