Is it a good idea to spend hundreds of pounds to upgrade our TVs in order to watch the utter tripe that is presented to us?
I believe they are now planning a reality TV show called "You too can be a corpse", I'm told there are hundreds applying for an audition.

Well people now accept what ever tv is thrown in front of them! Years ago there had to be an appealing element or nobody would watch Tv and instead would do something constructive. Now we all take Tv as a given and all the channels have to compete with is each other and so we have had a creative slump as more money is pumped into repetitive crap like lost and desperate housewives

There is some good stuff out there, but you have to be very selective to find it.

In know the BBC get slagged off a lot, but they still make quality stuff, such as Dr Who, Life on Mars and Newsnight.

I have a standard TV set (CRT) with a freeview box. That is the cheapest way to got digital.

There are several reasons. One there is now a huge demand for programs so what was not acceptable when we had 5 channels is now taken. You also have to consider the average viewer. I understand Big Brother has or at least had a big audience and what little I have seen was very very boring. So most of the programs are aimed at the majority of people who will watch rubbish

Well, when I was growing up, I thought television shows were quite dumb. Shows like "Gomer Pyle", "Hogans' Heroes' [Nazis as "lovables"? DAMN!], "Gilligan's Island" or "The Munsters". They used to call tv the "idiot box". No wonder. The shows were mindless stupidity down to the viewers' minds. I don't watch comercial tv any more. Is it that trashy now? [I haven't seen not once an episode of "The Apprentice" nor "The Sopranos". Not once. And proud of it.]

There is a finite amount of talent being spread over an increasing number of channels, so it has to be spread a lot more thinly.
