I used to work on a urology floor at a major surgical hospital. We had all sorts of guys getting circumcisions as adults. It is way more common than you might think.

I remember one 18 year old hockey player that had to have it done and he refused his medication the night before. When he woke up around 3:30 a.m. he had a huge woody and tore all his sutures. (I still get the shivers thinking about it!)

I suggest your husband takes his meds!

After seeing the amount of guys HAVING to have it done later in life, I wish all parents would have their kids done right after they are born.

Yeah, it hurts, but there is pain control medications and creams that numb the area. The benefits WAY outway the discomfort.

As well, the difference in sensitivity is minimal - contrary to the "purists".

I wish your husband all the best.

I don't know anyone personally who got circumcised as an adult. Furthermore, most uncircumcised guys probably wouldn't get circumcised unless there was something wrong with the foreskin (which is quite rare). There are several reasons you should not have a circumcision (assuming there's no medical problem with the foreskin and it has never caused any problems before).

Circumcision cuts away a lot of nerve endings found in the foreskin, thereby reducing sensations. This can cause a dramatic reduction in sensitivity (see links 1 and 2). In addition, circumcision can also decrease sexual satisfaction for both the man and woman (see links 3 and 4).

There have been recent studies showing that circumcision might decrease the rate of HIV contraction, but this unlikely to be an issue with you or your husband. In any case, safe sex (such as condom use and monogamy) easily wins over circumcision any day. Furthermore, proper and prompt hygiene of the uncircumcised penis essentially negates this benefit from circumcision, making the rate of HIV contraction almost equal between uncircumcised and circumcised men (see link 5). Also, no one is sure of the cause-effect relation between circumcision and HIV, so right now it's just a strong correlation and lots of speculation - reasons enough to hesitate on circumcision for that reason alone.

See the last two links for how other people debated this same question, and how many chose to stay circumcised whereas a few decided to go ahead with the procedure. My two cents' worth - I'm uncircumcised and have never had any problems, I wouldn't want it any other way either unless necessary. If I were your husband, I would not get it done unless there was a good medical reason.

My friend was circumcised when he was 9; he said he will never forget it. It was very painful for weeks. He had to lay on the couch with nothing on but a sheet covering him for more than a week. He had to have it done due to retraction problems. He said that it was the worst thing he ever experienced in his life. He is in his 30's now and still talks about the experience.

Find a rabbi in a Russian Jewish area of town.
The reason being that there were a lot of Russian Jews that never got circumcised in Russia as Jewish tradition would demand that they do. When they came to America they of course sought out rabbi's who would perform the surgery and ceremony called a bris.
So that population of men would be able to provide great information for you.

Yes, my brother in law. He now wishes he had not.
Reason for doing it was the doctor said it was causing problems in my sister, Yeast infections. that is a pile of crap. Should have just kept it clean. My advise is not to be circumcised. I am not and have never had a problem. 65 years old.
