The thing I learned about myself once I received my CCW was I'm actually a nicer person. So yes it does make you a stronger person.

As the rider in Hidalgo said "God sure didn't create all men equal but Colt sure did" referring to his colt 45 hanging on his side. Karate is a most wonderful discipline and is not for fighting but for avoiding fighting if possible. And if not possible then it be best to know karate better than the enemy. And as was said before... happiness is a warm gun. The man or woman or child holding it is still alive. In this supposed world of turn the other cheek and forgive and forget if a gun is hanging on the side and there in case things become unequal or perhaps the enemy comes up with a bigger and more effective weopon then the question becomes a bit blatant and all skepticisms aside... a bit rediculous when it is through that means that the answer is got to.

I believe it does, knowledge is power (not make you stronger that is, but can help to protect). However one has to learn about it thoroughly and "it" must be used properly or that can backfire easily. If you're sister has a gun, I hope she took the classes on how to handle a gun because they cover all sorts of areas and provide many tips: for example, if she doesn't clean it regularly - it could jam on her, or the importance of having the safety on, or what to do when a bullet doesn't fire.
I think you also have to apply common sense, such as:
gun: don't use it unless you know how to, it could backfire on you (more ways than one) don't pull it out unless you plan to use it and you really don't ever want to use it.
karate: don't use it unless you know how to, it could backfire on you.
I don't think a gun is a toy to be played with or to be thought of as a single thing that will solve a threat or fear of a threat, and if that isn't understood, they shouldn't own or use one.
I would focus more on were they/will they be trained properly, practiced regularly, supervised until learned, not used until confident to do so, and finally did they learn what they were suppose to.

uhh, no. Learning martial arts and owning a gun can make you feel safer better prepared against idiots. Real Criminals will shoot you before you can even remember you have a gun.
Martial arts is about self control, peace, and inner stability. Though sure, that can be useful in a fist fight, but taking it for self defense is the wrong reason.
Having a gun gives you a sense of power, that if some thing does happen, you'll be prepared. That's ok. It's the abuse of that power that separates those who defend betweent hose who attack. best to be carful.
Your Friends are just a bit paranoid.

Learning proper self defense can be excellent protection. The point of martial arts is to learn a) how to avoid the conflict altogether, and b) how to take down your opponent without killing. It also inspires great confidence in a person.
A gun is different - it's a false sense of security. The chances are greater, based on actual occurances, that someone with a gun will hurt themselves or a friend or family member. The chances of it actually coming in handy for protection in an actual real-life scenerio are slim to none. Guns are stupid.

Ignorance is bliss. The only goal of the left regarding guns, is to have more strict regulation. This will decrease the amount of illegal weapons trafficking and keep a convicted felon from purchase and owning a gun in a single day. It is our right, it clearly states in the constitution to bear arms. So quit freaking out, take your meds go call your nurse, and as long as your not a felon and over 21 you don't have to worry about gun ownership.

YES. The point of learning how to handle a gun or to learn martial arts, like being able to repair an automobile engine or becoming profecient in the stock market, is to become self-reliant.
Self-reliance is being strong.

Actually it is both .... plus being aware of your surroundings, where you are, what is going on and use your common-sense. Don't go places that have a bad reputation. Anyone telling you that you don't need to be physically stronger is lying. You do need to be very strong and capable of defending yourself plus have a good working knowledge of vital striking points. Stay safe.
