John I think you missed the point. My point is why are they competing in getting more money than the next person? Where in all of this is the USA and the people?

It is a good question and also sad but true. It is all about money. They could care less about the country we once had.

Presidential races are horribly expensive. You have to pound your name into every voters mind. They have be able to see your face when your name appears on the ballot. Candidates have to out maneuver all of their opponents. All the while they have to appear to already be worthy of the position. In most cases, this requires a party nomination (Political parties are not known for nominating individuals who are not adorned with a resume of financial success and independence).

The reality is that it is the voters fault. If voters did not vote based on which candidate is hotter, or who shook the most hands, or who kissed the most babies, maybe candidates could focus on the issues at hand. The worst thing that I see is people voting for someone simply because they are a Republican or a Democrat. Negating the principals of the individual, or the pros and cons. That in mind it seems foolish for a presidential candidate to spend millions on a race that they may not win, in order to get a job that will never pay as much as they spent to get it. Only afterwards, they can write books and appear as keynote speakers at formal functions, in an attempt to regain the millions lost. So why do it unless to change the world? In the end, it is the voter that decides who is elected and why. The candidate is only playing the game as it was prescribed.

It could seem that it is the voter, not the candidate, that cares more about money than they do about the country.

I think it's because of the voters. If it was the issues that mattered, then it wouldn't matter so much with money. For example; the GOP is mostly conservative. Pro-life, pro-gun, and anti-illegal immigration. Tom Tancredo possesses all these qualities, yet look who's at the top...Romney and Gulliani. These are liberals compared to Tancredo and Brownback (Sadly, Brownback supports amnesty). Gulliani and Romney have more money, so the blind people of America favor them instead.

It isn't about money. It is just that the best known candidate tends to collect the most donations. It is an easy way to measure a candidate's popularity.

Television coverage created the money pit. Commercials are the easiest way to get any candidate or message in front of any voter/tv watcher.

Who says we spend to much on Democracy?

I read that Americans spend 6 billion on porn a year and the next Presidential election will only raise and spend about one billion.

Don't like it? Move to Cuba!

Because unfortunately the only way for a candidate to win is to saturate the airwaves with expensive campaign commercials.
