D.A.R.E. is probably working as well as the "McGruff the Crime Dog" program. Studies showed years ago that it was having about 0% effect on kids, but it still lives on... don't know why!
Personally, I think they should re-route the $$ used in these two programs and provide a sort of boot-camp for kids who are starting to get in trouble with the law. But that's just me... I like to nip things in the bud at the first sign of trouble.

D.A.R.E. is another waste of money, just like the Dept. of Housing & Urban Development. They are just there to appease the naive. What politician wants to be against a program that's supposed to help teens avoid drugs? It's political suicide.
If our society wanted to really scare teens away from drugs, they should make the movie, "Requiem For A Dream" a requisite in High School. Afterwards, you'll probably see kids in the hallways dumping everything, including aspirin, into the garbage cans.

The truth is, drugs are scary. They impaire your judgement, can become an addiction and are illegal, which means you could go to jail. The people behind D.A.R.E have their hearts in the right place, they want to help kids. However, I agree with you that we need a new program that embraces honesty, while still working to keep kids off drugs.

why shouldn't DARE work? In fact, I would love to see Pharmacists in the schools teaching the kids about law-enforcement!! It makes just as much sense as having the cops teach about drugs.
Marijuana would indeed cause lung cancer if you smoked as much dope as tobacco. It is the by-products of combustion that cause cancer.....not the drug. Yes, this is a fact! As for the brain damage, have you ever seen a chronic (like the pun?) marijuana user that didn't seem like they were brain-damaged? Come on now!

I agree. We need something more effective. Effective, but not childish.
When you watch Cops on TV, half of the people arrested for drug use have D.A.R.E. shirts on.

I even have observed that many conservative republicans are okay secure by potential of their earnings and many stay in good neighborhoods. they think of that they stay commonplace lives and are so bumped off form the tough fact of the genuine international. and because they do no longer seem to be so related to that harsh fact they say to themselves "nicely i could do this and that i could do this ." no longer understanding that their judgments are particularly valueless. form of like imaging what you would be able to do in a center of a conflict -till you're there it is not common to assert. yet what occurs is they alter into calloused and self righteous and fairly harsh and judgmental. So i understand that the human powers that be suitable now -such because of the fact the wealthy neo cons - have not a care interior the international for a foul teenage woman or boy that has suffered injury that they themselves do no longer even understand. And have confidence me that fits the devil merely wonderful. To suited it off those clueless human beings do no longer even understand that they are in touch with those human beings. some IV clientele would artwork in eating places or additionally be in a eating place the clueless neo cons bypass to . yet those conservatives will vote down wellbeing care and sooner or later would desire to get a dose of the tough suffering that many others adventure. I pray lots........... Obama-08

waste of tax dollars. The school system think that by allowing for children to experience these types of programs that they will be able to not get hooked onto drugs...they are wrong.

You can't hold the programs responsable for what the kids in them do. there will always be idiots doing drugs. and i don't think it is a waste of time because it helps kids know the facts about what they are doing to themselves. and i was in it and because of it have never and will never do drugs.
