Lets analyze some stats from the past 5 seasons, which is how long David Carr has played in the NFL. Delhomme is on the left of the slash, Carr is on the right.
Yards= 13444/13391
Completions= 1109/1243
Completion %= 60%/60%
Touchdowns= 89/59
QB Rating= 84/75.5
Fumbles= 46/68
Record= 44-36/24-56
Looks even in the first three categories. Carr even had more completions. But as you go down the table to more important stats, Delhomme has the edge. He took his fewer completions and translated them into 30 more TD passes than Carr. He's been working in the Panther's gameplan pretty well too. He has brought them to the playoffs twice, including one Super Bowl. They're definitly going to keep him in the starting QB spot.

Jake Delhomme is a proven QB whos even been to a super bowl and is experienced.
David Carr is a mediocre QB currently who has more losses than wins and is still young.
Delhomme for now but Carr has never been seen with a good offensive line.

David Carr is a far more efficient passer than Delhomme in terms of % and has NEVER benefited from an offensive line that would protect him until now. Carr should be the starter and given the opportunity in the preseason to battle for the starting job, I think Carr can take it from Delhomme. Carr is a good QB with a lot of potential, certainly the best back up QB in the league now that Schaub is a starter.
Delhomme is likely to start...but I think Carr should be the one starting. Either way, I think Delhomme knowing Carr is there will make him want to play better so he wont lose his job.

Jake Delhomme. Carr is a good backup however. Delhomme has a better grasp of the offense and talent in it with a better completion percentage. Unless Carr completely outplays him in practice or he is injured. But I doubt Carr will outplay him.

Delhomme should be the starter. He shouldn't lose his job to afree agent signing unless they signed someone like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. But he is very injury prone, so I would say Carr will be starting at some point this year and if he plays well he might take the #1 QB spot away from Delhomme.

David Carr has potential but he has yet to prove himself, if things go bad for Delhomme they will probably put in Carr

Delhomme should start, but will be on the hot seat. His accuracy has been bad, and cannot seem to catch fire for his team, even with Steve Smith and Johnson. I would say that if the Panthers passing game starts out anemic, they will look to Carr to get something started. He can complete passes if nothing else.
