The Illuminati is not a big evil empire. This was a book written that used the name illuminati as a word for world controlling bad guys who`s authority was challenged by another group called the dissidents or or something. I never read that book but it seems interesting. The real illuminati was a splinter sect of Rosicrutians (the order of the rose cross) that is now defunct. They were abunch of guys who prayed and read books and performed rituals similar to masonic rites. Do a web search on Rosicrucianism and look into the Illuminati to find what the symbol they used to represent themselfs. Anyone who tells you long mind numbing conspiracies about the illuminati is either just kidding, they want ratings for their show or they are crazy. However from that book numerous other movies, books and other media have used the illuminati as bad guys. However they were mostly upper middle class theologans, philosophers, free thinkers and alchemists who found the mainstream spirituality of their time greatly lacking.
