There is no scientific theory that says anything special will happen in 2012. There is only wild speculation by people who don't know what they are talking about based on the Mayan calendar reaching the end of a major cycle on that date.

The world will be in still yet more chaos. Seriously. I honestly believe that this would won't last another 8-10 years. Think about the conflict going on now. How much longer can that last? One of these days these terrorists are going to get their hands on a nuclear device and it's only a matter of time. They will use it............bet your last penny. Hate to sound pessimistic but it's merely obvious. The USA is going to be more and more overcrowded due to illegals coming here and bringing their families and making more and more babies. The weather is going to be worse and worse as the years go by. I think global warming is going to really mess up the water supply, food production, and then the weather extremes are going to destroy more of America. Look @ New Orleans. I was down there recently for two months checking those levee elevations to see if they're high enough. The city is "still" a disaster........I am serious. The soil foundation is such that it will not tolerate more weight so higher levees can't be built. It's a delta type soil and very mushy. People seem to be losing their ability to be "love thy neighbor". Look at how politicians get into trouble and then the 1st thing that happens is many say "resign". It's like everyone expects absolute perfection from imperfect human beings. Everyone is expected to be completely flawless and that simply will never happen.
Quite frankly I fear, to a degree, what the future will be like in another 5 years.

Will the world end on 21st December 2012 because of the end of the Mayan calendar or because the winter solstice is "aligned" with the Milky Way?

According to the Mayan Calender,the earth either ends,or we go into a "New Age".Personally...I think the poor Indian got tired of chiseling ."Hey,chief ,can I stop now ? My arm is killing me!"
Other theories say that's when the Anti-Christ will rise to power or the twelth Imam of Islam(a scary guy in his self) will rise out of the well he dove into thousands of years ago and start a conflaguration.
I think I will wake up at 3:30 am and go to work just like every other day this past 30 years.

not much other than we will be about 5 years older.
some say the world will end, or time reverts to the beginning.
if it does we won't remember, so don't worry.
i mean we aren't promised the next minute, so just move on.
