Couple of things..
what do you want it for: extra storage? games, music, photos, movies??
If you just want some extra storage, go with a 40GB-60GB external hard drive, if you keep a bunch of photos, or movbies go with a bigger on say 60GB- 80GB, if you play a lot of mp3s or have a bunch of pc games or programs that you use, I would go for one the is 100GB and over..
whatever you do, stay AWAY from Maxtor Hard Drives..then tend to stop working after a while and get corrupted real easily

I would like to know where Naveen is getting a 1TB external for under $200 at. You can check out www.tigerdirect.com they have a lot of external to choose from. I would go with atleast 250gb or even the 500gb external. I have a external case (holds 5 hdds and it has 5*500GB hdds in it now) I have a lot of movies on them. Those 5*500gb and the case cost me around $600....You have to consider warranty also. Maxtor used to have a 3-5yrs warranty but that might have changed since Seagate owns Maxtor now. Seagate, Western Digital or IBM make good HDDS..You can get a MyBook 1TB for $450 is the cheapest I have found anywhere. ....Thanks

You can easily get a 1 TB external harddrive for just about $200 .
If ur computer supports Firewire, go in for a Firewire interface external harddrive. If not go in for a USB2.0 .
Maxtor is the best company in external harddrives, u could also consider Western Digital.
Go in for a minimum of 250 GB, now that the prices have comedown.

Just go down and buy the one that matches your budget. They're almost all USB 2. I've used dozens of Maxtors for backup and never had one go bad.
It would be kind of hard to get a 1 TB for $200 since they don't exist yet. You should be able to swing a 300MB for less than $200.

They're all pretty good. Look at price and warranty length. WD or Seagate have excellent warranties.
