Which Bill Murray is better? The early years ie., Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Scrooged, Kingpin, What About Bob? OR Later ie., Rushmore, Life Aquatic, Royal Tannenbaums, Lost In Translation ? Personally, honestly I miss the early funnier Bill

I am afraid he is suffering from the same problem that many comics have. He started out clever and edgy and made sure everything he did was as good as he could make it. Now he has become so caught up in his own ego that he will release any junk that pops into his head without trying to be at his best. He gets paid the same and he can just slide along on his old reputation.

Personally I wouldn't consider Scrooged and Kingpin old Bill Murray when you take his entire career into consideration. But to each their own. But I agree that his early career was amazing. Though the stuff he does now is on a different level. It's strange how you can watch really good actors and comedians mature (and sober up) and the parts they take. Lost in Translation wasn't meant to be funny. I don't even think that Life Aquatic was meant to make you roll over with laughter on the floor, even though it was darkly funny. You have to think about the comedians that still do the stupid slap stick comedy and how terrible it is.

I have to agree with you. Bill Murray is greater earlier.
I never understood Lost In Traslation, The Royal Tannenbaums was alright, and Life Aquatic was humorless.

But, Steve Martin's movies are about the same speed as well.

I understand your preference, but I found some of the early films a little TOO goofy. I enjoyed the dry humor in Lost in Translation & The Life Aquatic. I'd place Groundhog Day in the latter category, too. It would be nice, though, if he did a flat-out comedy again.

I prefer the the later Bill Murray. I used to think he was a wretched actor until his later career, but now I think he is a really amazing actor. OK, I did like Stripes, but I HATED What About Bob?

Watch the movie "Broken Flowers" it's a good one.

Early years. Same with Steve Martin and Woody Allen.

In the words of Homer Simpson, "Be funnier!"
