In the early spring, you can use an anti-weed treatment on your lawn (I live in Indiana and my husband just treated our lawn). To get rid of any bare patches, in the fall you can aerate your lawn (have a professional do it, or you can rent the machine) and overseed with your grass of choice. You may want to consult a lawn service to help you get it under control before you take over yourself.

you can either go along and take each weed out by hand or get a lawn weedkiller that you spray or water in. when you have done this you will have more bare spots on your lawn so between march and october try spreading more lawn seed ,cover with a fine layer of soil to keep the birds off. the recommended amount is a handful for the lawn and a handful for the birds as they will feed from it if given the chance.

I live in KY also. We will dig them out and sow more grass seed. We will also use a weed and feed to prevent the weeds from coming up. I like to use the Ortho Weed-B-gone in a hose sprayer to help control the dandelions we get. Good luck with the weeds and happy Easter.

I am on the west coast and don't know if this product is avail
to you.Try using weed and feed it kills broadleaf weeds but
feeds the lawn, works great. Try a hardware or nursery or
home improvement store like Lowes or Home Depot.

Now this may sound stupid, but if you do not have a large lot, boiling water is a great weed killer. Just pour it on the individual weeds.
