Not most of the time, certain guns will need them, especially if you work in a shop and the psi is high, but I would have to say, NO, in your situation.

You should put a regulator on anyway . The nailer is rated for a max of 100 psi but depending on what your nailing and how long it's off beteen use, it prob wont be more than 10 over at most times . . If you want to use another tool or hook it up to a more presure critical piece of equipment, you may need it anyway. best to have one already hooked in and in line.

It wouldn't hurt to have an air regulator on it. Since your air cpmpressor is set at 80 psi as long as that works for you then you'll be able to get away without one. father's Day will be here before you know it, so drop hints now with model numbers and where you can get one. Who knows, you may end up with one come July.

There should be a built in regulator on the compressor that you can adjust the pressure. Look for a knob near the gauge that pulls/pushes in and out and then turns to adjust pressure. Depending on the size brad you use, you do not want it at the same pressure for all sizes or they will go in too far.

you should have an adjustment screw on your A/C to regulate the pressure, but if not, get an in-line gage from any hdwr store and place about 5lbs higher than the gun states to shoot. that will allow for the pressure reduction when shooting and keep your pressure up.
always place about 4 drops of gun oil in the air inlet before connection the hose. disconnect when not in use....don't want to blow the blater.
just put the a/c on to its highest point and let the in-line pressure gage do the work for the gun...you'll always have psr.
