Obviously Howard Stern and votefortheworst.com have spawned a huge movement to keep Sanjaya on American Idol as a joke on both the show's producers and the viewing/voting public and, have succeeded in exposing the American Idol voting system’s flaws.

Attempts to find ways to humiliate and sensationalize AI’s contestants and judges, by both the public and the show’s own producers, have resulted in bigger ratings and “water cooler” buzz over the years.

Is it possible to find a fair voting system to outsmart those who seek to corrupt and return AI to the innocent past-time of just choosing the best singer?

Or does the show really need Howard Stern, votefortheworst, its Corey Clarks, Smoking Guns, Scott Savols, Frenchie and Antonella dirt, Sanjaya's Universe, and the wonderment that is Paula, in order to keep the jaded viewer watching, as well as, the innocent kid?

What is the goal of the producers of AI?

Answer - Make Money

Whats happening this season? AI is getting TONS of free publicity due to this "scandal" The NBC, ABC, CNN, CBS evening news are covering this, they talk about on the morning shows, it's in the USA Today and every major newspaper. You can't buy publicity like this.

Guess what, viewership is up, hence advertising revenue is up and the producers are making more $ than ever. Do you really think this bothers them.

Voteforworst.com was around last season too, possibly the seasons before too. It's not new. It was set up by some folks who had intimate experience of how skewed the audition process is. I highly recommend that you go to votefortheworst.com and read the "about us" page and their background information. And for the funniest freaking thing, read their blog where they critique the performances everyweek.

AI producers purposely put Sanjaya's on the show. It's a reality show, not as Simon would say a singing contest. Or as Peter Noone correctly stated it's a voting contest, not a singing contest.

I watch the show and as I understand the voting is done by the public. It is the public that has made a choice. The judges are just commentary to opinion or to influence opinion. I think I represent the person who could vote but is apathetic about the outcome. If I were to vote and I don't, Sanjaya would have been gone four weeks ago. I wonder what it is that people are thinking when they vote. Maybe the vote should cost more so only the most serious people would vote....Maybe they should establish a way for one vote per person. If he wins music will have taken a step backwards.

if u ask me, vftw is just a stupid web site that is trying to cause a stink over a show that they don't like. If there r enough people out there that hate the show that much then they have another choice.DON'T WATCH THE SHOW, that's what the channel selector is for. I think it is crazy for people to go to all this trouble when all of the final 12 will get a contract after there years obligation to AI. what they do with it will b up to them and the people who buy there cd's
i can see no real way to better the voting system short of just let the judges do the work and then there would b no point to the program.

American Idol should let people vote for who they want OFF the show rather than making people vote hundreds of times for one person in order to keep them in the game with Sanjaya's non-singin behind. I'd vote millions of times to get him off the show. It would also prevent people who like more than one contestant from having to vote millions of times for several different people.

There is no way if there is a public vote. If you get enough people on the same page there will be the same possibilities
