I just had my first baby on 3-30 and my question is how long should I bleed. Not discharge but actual period like bleeding?

Well I just learned in my birth class that if you are breastfeeding you should bleed for 2-3 weeks and if you are formula feeding than you should bleed 5-6 weeks. The instructor also told me that after the intial bleeding if breastfeeding you might not get your regular period for 3 months and if you're formula feeding you should get your regular period within a month or month in a half. Congrats on your baby!

At least a month, by your 6 wks check up you should be getting somewhat back to normal! If you are bleeding heavier then a normal period for you then you need to contact your doctor - there may be a problem.

It will vary but don't be alarmed - it can seem like a crazy amount of blood for a good month.....look into iron rich foods and be assured that the bleeding is very normal but asking your doctor about ANYTHING that they didn't tell you about is the best way - we're all different and it will also depend on the kind of birth you had....

Probably a couple weeks. Seems like I bled for a 2-4, but I could be wrong...It's been 5 years since I did this last. I'll find out again soon!

Congrats on the new baby!!

Everyone is different. I had a friend who bled for 2 weeks, another for 4 weeks, & another who spotted for about 8 weeks when she finally did stop bleeding about 4 weeks after. It's a very indivdual thing.

I bled for 7 weeks. My Dr. told me that if I was to continue to bleed to 8 weeks I would have to get an ultrasound and possibly be put on meds.

Apparently this is not uncommon.

Congrats on your little one. Many happy days ahead.

I did for the first 6-7 weeks with both of mine. Just keep your activity level down relax, try to keep stress to a minimum take your baths and spray off with water after using the toilet.
