it tells me my computer may be at risk for viruses. It is a windows security alert. Why does that warning come up all the time?

it is showing your security device is on.

The yellow shield is from Microsoft update service. It's telling you that there is an update available for you system.

There is a new vulnerability discovered in Windows in the last week. The current update is to resolve this vulnerability. Generally speaking you want to take these, at least check them out.

the first two answers are correct, as far as they go, but, if you click on that shield, it'll tell you what updates you need to install, and it would be a good idea to do an express install so you can get it over with, otherwise, they just keep adding up..

Because you computer is trying to update a couple of things so it won't get viruses. I get it to, and I just ignore it, but sometimes I recommend updating.

It's most likely Windows telling you you don't have a virus scanner installed. If you do have one installed, then it could just be that windows doesn't recognise it.
