"Life is what you make it."
As a small child this was drilled into us in school, and I have never forgotten it.
Since then, i have seen a lot of people who think life is what happens to you. Also there are many who think life is what is planned for you and handed to you from an external authority.
Eventually I figured out that there are things you can control and other things that you cannot control.
So you can accept with grace what you cannot control. But in things that offer you options, you can make a thoughtful choice, then accept full responsibility for the outcomes.
It feels good when you can say: I am the captain of my fate, and we are responsible for what we are and for what we shall become.
All this started with that wide-eyed little kid hearing those words:
Life is what you make it.

You won't believe this, but the most inspirational words I ever heard came from..................... Drew Barrymore, the actress.

The best advice I ever heard for overly protective parents was this: "Let your child find his own road, and it will always lead back to you".
