You will have to spend several hours learning to use it, but I am using hijack this to make sure that I only have what I want running. Performance is great. Most computers have tons of stuff running in the background, eating up your resources. The program allows you to limit this, but it is a bit advanced.

There's really nothing you can buy software wise that will make your PC, run faster.
But if you follow these steps you should get a performance boost.
1 . Click Start - Control Panel - System - click the Advanced Tab - in the Performance section click on the Adjust for Best Performance then OK.
2. Click Start - click on Run - type MSConfig - Click on the Startup Tab you can uncheck mostly everything. You'll want to see which is your Firewall and antivirus and leave those checked .You may need to play around with this.
3. Click Start - My Computer - Right Click your C: drive scroll down to Properies and Click on Disk Cleanup
4. Download and install a Spyware remover program like Adaware. You can download it free from http://www.download.com

First determine how much RAM you have. Start...RIGHT click on MY COMPUTER...then PROPERTIES..this will give you how much RAM u have. If 256 or 512 then you shud upgrade to 1 gb.
You might need help on this if u dont know what you are doing, but when your computer first comes on there are many programs that start up to slow the computer down...Many u dont need,,,question..which one DO YOU need..
You can bring this up by going to Start....run...type in mcconfig in the box.and hit enter
You can also try to clean your registry by downloading ccleaner.com or www.registry-cleaners.info
Occasionally defrag your computer...start..all programs..accessories..system tools.. disk defragment
that will do for a start...note: you can purchase new RAM on the internet that is cheaper than Best Buy,Circuit city ,...etc

u need to buy some memory stick, SDRAM or DDR or DDR2
but first u have to look at in your motherboard manual, to see how much u got left and how much u need more.
