On my sony wega Tv (Hd im guessing it has HDMI port) i hooked up my DVD player/ VHS and it has progressive scan. I hooked it up with RED, WHITE, AND YELLOW cables. I turned Progressive scan now it just says PROGRESSIVE SCAN MODE in white and a blue background How do i take that off?

I´m fairly sure you cant use progressive scan with standard Red White Yellow cables.
You either need to use HDMI or the Blue,Red,Green + Red white ones

Sorry, you can't use progressive scan out with composite cable (the yellow).
Since your DVD player has progressive scan, it has also YPbPr output (component - green/blue/red). Get some extra cables, connect them to component input on your TV and you will be all set.
