People who have tried either of these and did any of them work? I am very anxious and ready to meet my little one. I am 10 days overdue if anyone was wondering.

1. Castor Oil- how effective and how long did it take to work?

2. Enema (gross)- same question.. is this safer than castor oil?

3. Mineral Oil- someone suggested it, but not sure how effective it is.

Can you prompt labor?

There are some “theories” about how you can induce labor. Some have some scientific backing, and some are, well, perhaps a little strange:

* Sweeping membranes. Your doctor or midwife may gently separate the membranes from the uterus opening.
* Sexual activity. A woman’s orgasm will cause oxytocin, which is a hormone which causes the uterus to contract, to be released. Of course semen also contains prostaglandins, which can help soften the cervix.
* Acupuncture or acupressure
* Homeopathic remedies
* Herbal preparations
* Walking
* Good hot bowl of curry

Castor oil is not a good idea, it makes your bowel overactive. An enema would be okay to use but it won't start labor, it can just keep you from pooing on the delivery table (I never did but some do). I have never heard of using mineral oil. Sex and walking followed by a nice warm shower was the only thing that worked for me.

Castor oil would be more likely to make you sick, although it shouldn't harm the baby. You don't want to start labor that way.

The enema would be the safest bet, because that's what a lot of hospitals will give you when you're going in to have your baby.

Do not ingest laxatives. Baby will get here when baby is ready to get here.

Have you tried having sex? That's pretty effective as well and at least you'll have a little fun instead of ingesting gross oils. :)
