Especially if it was nightmarish right afer your first?

I'm 33 weeks, and I remember how bad it was after I had my son. Is it going to be worse this time around?

If you had it with your first it's very likely that you'll have it with your second. Typically, unfortunately, it's worse with each pregnancy. There are antidepressants that are safe to take during pregnancy. I highly recommend that you talk to your OB about getting on something now, since it takes 3-4 weeks to start feeling the full effects of the medication. This way when baby gets here you should be at an even level and won't experience the PPD. I had 4 kids and each time my PPD got worse (I wasn't officially diagnosed until my 3rd one). With my last baby I started on wellbutrin as soon as my husband and I decided that we wanted another baby and did very well after baby was born. It's amazing how much easier and enjoyable having a new baby can be when you're not an emotional wreck. Good luck and please take my advise so you can enjoy your new baby.

If you had it with your first you are likely to have it with your second. I was put on Zoloft during my first pregnancy and I didn't get PPD because I was already being treated. This last pregnancy I didn't get put on it until just two weeks ago when my baby was two months old. If you had it with your first ask to be treated before you have the baby to nip it in the butt before you get it. After a few months you can stop the treatment. I can really save a lot of heart ache and a lot of docs think that every women should be pretreated. Ask about it.

I had it after my first one. I have had three since then, and I did not get it again. Every pregnancy and postpartum is different.

i think it is likely that you will be depressed since you had it with your first one. maybe it will not be worse though. don't feel bad if you have to take an antidepressant for it. with my first child my ex husband really made me feel bad about it, so i quit taking them, when i really needed to take them.
