I am curious what people know about how marijuana became illegal. I would love to hear some real responses, not just nonsense. If you are a marijuana supporter than educate yourself.

Those people are right about taxation, they don't want us to consume anything independently. I'm suprised they don't ban vegetable gardens, lol.

You also have the Big Pharma, Big Alcohol and Big Cotton lobby standing in the way. And, then all of the billions of dollars made every year on the "War against Drugs", they have figured they make more $$ banning it and punishing users.

Really good question!
I have seen people drink several cocktails and be totally messed up for HOURS!!
Then again I have seen people smoke pot and in 40 to 50 minuets they are straight again.
I have no logical idea why one is OK but the other isn't.
Go to druglibrary.org
There is SO much information on the history of pot,
I'm sure you will find the info you are looking for!!

Last time alcohol was illegal, organized crime skyrocketed, and many bars (aka speakeasies) opened. There were thousands of bars open in NYC. I don't really know about the marijuana though. We probably just don't want to be known as a pothead nation.

After one bad experience after another with alcohol, whether with myself or friends and family, I'm all for both being illegal at this point; they both ruin lives. The problem is historically (1920s) there was so much social upheaval when it was originally banned that eventually it was repealed.

The answer might surprise you (or maybe not!), but the original lobby to outlaw the demon weed came from the cotton farmers!

Since it can be grown more cheaply, but must be processed with different equipment, cotton farmers with friends in Congress were much a-feared that hemp would make their cotton-harvesting accouterments obselete & put them out of business... hence it was outlawed!

The drug companies have deep pockets and the government loves money!
There is way more evidence that pot is a very good medicinal drug that doen't destroy your internal organs......unlike Percocette, which you can legally get prescribed by the hundreds on a monthly basis!

i don' see anything wrong with legalizeing marijuana as long as they treat it under the same laws as alcohol.

because the government can't regulate the manufacture, sale, and distribution of marijuana like it can alcohol.

Taxation. It would be imposable to collect taxes from 'home growers', but it is easy to impose an alcohol tax.

Um, we tried making alcohol illegal once. That didn't work too well.
