I did it for 4 years on the direct care end of it not the teaching aspect. I just had on the job training. Some instructor positions (for adults with disablities) are just 2 years experience working with them and any associates degree. It could be in marketing...it doesn't matter. If you want to be a special ed teacher then you have to have a special ed degree. for a QMRP (qualified mental retardation professional) you need a bachelors

My grandmother works with autistic children as an assistant teacher and i dont even think she finished college but she still got a job, i'm sure you'd have to have a good interview though.

You'll need at minimum a degree in Social Work. check your local unversity for the requirements and coursework necessary.
