Floppy disk drives are cheaper to purchase than a card reader so should you need one it will only cost a few pounds to buy.
With most mobile phones using memory cards to expand their capabilities and digital cameras so common placed I think a card reader would be of more use.
They are incredibly easy to use and the storage space is limited only by the size of memory on the card you are reading. The last 12-18 months has seen a dramatic drop in cost for large volume memory cards. Definately the way to go.

My brother just built me my new PC and installed a card reader instead of a floppy drive.
Why..............
Hands up anyone who's actually used a floppy disc recently - I haven't used one for years!
Card readers are a great way of viewing whatever you have on memory cards of all shapes, sizes...... and instead of having to hook up your digital camera to the PC all you do is insert the memory card into the reader. It's quicker, easier,
and doesn't use any power from your camera batteries.
Don't forget that memory cards that you use in digital cameras can also be used to store files and information on as well. So are just like other portable storage products. I use mine like that all the time, saves buying a dongle/memory stick, smaller to carry, easy to transfer files using 'drag and drop' facility.
I think soon PC's won't have floppy drives on them anymore when you buy direct from shops............ just that as I'm lucky to have my own personal computer engineer, I'm ahead of the game technology wise.
Thats what I think, so hope it helps you decide.
I'm more than happy, and have everything I need - floppies are definitely out of date!

floppy drives are now been replaced by u.s.b drives and keys and with floppy drives the limited amount of data it can hold(1.44mb)makes it useless
card readers are very handy, especially if you use a digital camera with a sd memory card, you can just insert your memory card into the reader instead of having to link the camera up to the p.c
card readers are very easy to use, some are external and a few are internal which fit into your floppy drive bay,but remember most atx cases have 2 x floppy drive bays so you should be able to accomodate both floppy drive and card reader
if you are using a sd memory card you can buy a usb card reader, this device plugs into your usb port and then you plug your sd card in the back of it,it looks like a bluetooth dongle,i got one from a poundsaver store for...guess what...a pound..look around there must be a poundland/poundworld store close to your area
good luck

that's as a rule a own selection challenge,i in my opinion could go with the three.5" floppy diskpersistent this can seem unusual yet as i dont do alot of digital images yet spend alot of time repairing percents a three.5" floppy disk nonetheless is provided in accessible now and back,as an social gathering even as i favor to create a domicile windows ninety 8/me start up disk or a hardpersistent software like seatools (seagate) which scans not basic drives for undesirable sectors maximum floppy drives are disabled in percents via the bios, yet this can fairly be enabled back in case you want to characteristic one domicile windows xp nonetheless makes use of floppy disks in such initiatives like back up yet back in case you imagine a card reader has a larger priority than a floppypersistent opt for the cardboard reader,as you could continuously purchase a exterior floppypersistent if mandatory,or why no longer use both, maximum situations enable for 2 x 3.5" peices of hardware to be equipped solid success mate

Card readers are great, it means you don't have to mess about to unload your camera etc.
The system recognises the card reader as removeable drives (like a memory stick for instance)
The only problem I have had with mine is that I sometimes have to unplug it if I am resetting the system for some reason ( but my card reader is external)

The only point to floppies is to install RAID drivers. Other than that, they have no use at all.
