Not dangerous if you shake the milk after it comes out of the microwave. Microwave ovens heat by causing water molicules to move rapidly, causing friction.

It's not, like a lot of people have said, going to make the milk radioactive and give off radiation!!! Well actually that's not quite true, it will give off thermal (infrared) radiation because it is hot, but that would happen however you heated it! The only reason why you may have read that it is dangerous to heat baby milk in a microwave, is that it's very easy to overheat the milk and, as I'm sure you know, very hot milk will burn the baby's mouth and throat. Any burns to the mouth and throat can be very serious as they can cause swelling to such a proportion as to block the airway so the baby cannot breathe. So long as you tested the temperature of the milk when it came out and, if it was too hot, cooled it appropriately, you shouldn't have any problems. The only other danger I can think of is that you would need to check whether the bottle you heated it in was suitable for microwave use (you don't want it to melt!).

The danger is that the microwave doesn't heat food evenly. The microwaves themselves don't cause dangerous changes in the milk.

A microwave will be ok to use as long as you are very careful to not overheat the milk and to distribute the heat evenly in the bottle by shaking the bottle gently and letting it sit a couple of minutes to even out. Then test the temperature carefully before giving the milk to the baby. Careful, careful, careful.

Microwaving does not change the milk in a way that would make it dangerous for your baby. But things get hotter much quicker in microwaves - that's why we use them after all! - and the heat is not as evenly spread as with conventional heating. So the milk could be warm on top but much hotter further down the bottle. So be very careful to check the temperature of all the milk before giving to baby.

You might want to have 2 sterilised bottles, one to heat in, and then decant it into the other before you feed baby so you can check its temperature.

Also be careful to use microwave-safe bottles!

Microwave ovens do not harm food for human beings including babies. Like for all heating methods for babies milk you shake some on your inner wrist to make sure its not too hot or cold.

it would probably be better to heat it up in a sauce pan because the radiation from the microwave i think a little get transmitted into the food/milk ect.

I have microwaved thousands of bottles for my three sons over the years, no problems. Some of the other answerers have mentioned that microwaves heat unevenly, creating hot spots. Well, DUH, shake it!
