No, you are not born gay, straight, or bisexual. According to John Locke's (some Deist philosopher), people are shaped by their surroundings, according to his Tabula Rasa(blank slate) idea. Pitbulls, a stereotypically aggressive dog, are not born killers. They are shapened by their enviornment, such as an abusive owner. The same is with homosexuals. It is possible that they are genetically set to be more open to certain influences (such as being more open to influence by one's mother rather than one's father), but people are not "born" gay, straight, bisexual. Natural selection might have it that straights and bisexuals are more likely to succeed (and they are) because they have the ability to make offspring. Modern science has changed this selection for some with the introduction of surrogate offspring.

The overall idea is that one is not born homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual. He or she is shaped by their surroundings. Yet their surroundings and circumstances do not set in stone their sexual prefrences (ex: Beautiful people do not have beautiful offspring [yes, many exceptions do exist], but beautiful people do set great goals concerning beauty that their children might want to achieve).

And I just realized that I haven't answered your question.
No, you are without a doubt not alone in your belief.

And as Rodney Dangerfield said:

Being bisexual only doubles your chances of a date on Saturday night.

I think that people are born either heterosexual or homosexual. Homosexuality is a genetic thing, Nature intends for homosexuals not to reproduce for whatever reason.

Bisexuality, on the other hand, I don't believe is Natural. The only "animals" that show bisexual behavior show other strange and promiscuous behaviors, such as having orgies, Bonobos are the best example. I think that bisexuality is synthetic. It results either from societal pressures to be "accepting" or an individual's over-sexuality or promiscuity or d e s i r e (it edited the word for some reason...) to screw anyone or anything they can get.

I'm sure that sounds "close-minded", but it's what I've seen and what I believe.

I think that you are born homo- or heterosexual, just as you can be born asexual. But I also think that it can be learned. There are far too many stories around of young men (particularly so I'll use them only in this post) who were sexually assaulted repeatedly (not necessarily violently, but definitely violated) as children to the point that they begin to think that this is the way things and/or they are. Until they are taught different they grow to believe that they are homosexual.

I personally don't think there is such a condition as bi-sexual. I think that you are one or the other, you just can tolerate being with the opposite sex for your situation's sake.

(And don't everyone yell at me at once, it is just my opinion.)

Unfortunately, you're not alone in this belief.

The reality is quite complex.

Sexual l;ikes and dislikes are not the same as sexual identities. Moreover human sexuality cannot be understood by reference to whether our partner has a vagina or a dick.

The sexual identities are not as simple and clear cut as they are defined in the west. There is a hidden but strong gender and sexual politics behind these sexual identties.

IN SHORT GAY, STRAIGHT AND BI ARE PARTLY A CHOICE AND PARTLY NOT!

Very few people fit into these identities as they are defined. Because what is shown is not what you get. There are several hidden baggages which are part of the intense gender and sexual politics around manhood.

The gay identity (in case of men) is actually a third gender identity of the ancient/ medieval past that is meant only for feminine guys who are into promiscuous receptive anal/ oral sex with men. It was considerate The forces of heterosexualisation have cleverly redefined it in terms of "sexual attraction for men" to isolate male-male sexuality from the straight spaces and deprive them of manhood.

therefore only a particular kind of guys fit into it. For the rest of the guys it is not a real choice, for they will have to leave their gender (manhood) for a sexual space that does not even understand their sexuality (emotinoal and non anal/ oral sexuality). Since the only other space is 'heterosexual', then most men have no choice but to choose to be 'heterosexual'. It is also a must if they want to be 'men'.

We can say that being 'gay' comes naturally but being straight is a choice. Since very few guys are exclusively heterosexual. People choose to be heterosexual becasue that is the sexuality which has power, manhood, social approval and dignity. Most men choose to disown or hide their sexual need for men because they are trained to be so and because the society is hostile to it and because they have to leave their dignity and manhood and take on the 'gay' identity.

Men are also conditioned, rained and forced to be heterosexual. However no such pressures exist for the gay idneitity.

So a person who says he is gay is probably speaking the truth. But someone who says he is (exclusively) heterosexual is more likely to be hiding or suppressing his true sexual feelings, since there are strong motives/ pressures in the society to do so.

It is not fair to say that we should accept the straight identity as indicative of men's exclusive heterosexuality, because men choose it more because it is made synonymous with manhood.

each thing is built. First understand homosexualality is built, merely like hetrosexuality is built. The formula For development A gay This formula could be illustrated in this form: A Predisposition in the direction of Homosexuality Plus That First gay adventure expanded by potential of enjoyable and valuable gay recommendations To it rather is added greater gay reviews expanded by potential of greater enjoyable recommendations Constructs A gay. The formula For development A Hetrosexual This formula could be illustrated in this form: A Predisposition in the direction of hetrosexuality Plus That First Hetrosexual adventure expanded by potential of enjoyable and valuable Hetrosexual recommendations To it rather is added greater Hetrosexual reviews expanded by potential of greater enjoyable recommendations Constructs A Hetrosexual. in case you have built sexual needs for the two sexes you're bisexual. there is gender nonconformity. it rather is misunderstood by potential of many to be homosexuality in adult men or females. There characteristics would seem to look to the choice gender. some may well be born with hormonal subjects that reason a predisposition to gender nonconformity, together as some infants would study characteristics that seem to belong to the choice gender inflicting them to have gender nonconformity. no longer all infants with a gender nonconformity would be gay, and not all infants that are gay could have a gender nonconformity.

In a free society, where we cherish freedom of religion and expression, it should be irrelevant. Though I can say from personal experience that I've always been attracted to men, and never to women except as a friend, even before I had a clue what sex was about. So no, it was not a "choice" for me; in fact, there was a very dark period in my life as a young adult when I tried to "choose" to be straight, and I never acted on my attraction to men until I "chose" to stop hating myself and get on with my life.

I agree with you a thousand percent. It has been proven that people do not choose to be straight, bi or gay that is how we are born and its unfortuante in this day and age there is so much prejudice. I say let live and accept we are all human and if God did not want gays or bi's everybody would have been born straight.

No one will ever be on the same page with this question...even if science proves other wise...people will not admit that it was a choice, because they don't want to believe they have control over which way the hormones take them..and the people that believe they were born with it, find it hard to explain to persons who are not like them, I believe each gender has the potential to be bi...

That might be true. . . I'm even willing to say it's probably true. But what difference does it make? The most fundamentalist Christian on Earth never asked that you be somebody you're not. . . they just ask that you don't engage in sex with certain other people. And that, you see, really is a choice you make. No matter what your biological orientation might be, your behavior is still entirely up to you. Is it a difficult choice to make? God knows it is. But the thing we have always held to be true is that anyone who denies himself for the sake of loving God will never lack for a reward. Think about that.

You are not alone, but you are still wrong.
People act the way they choose. You are not born a liar, you are not born a cheater and you are not born a killer.
Just because you feel like doing something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
The way you behave is your responsibility.
