I was with my mom and dad in a quonset hut. We were eating. The table was a card table. The chair I was sitting on was a Pepsi can which I still have, a large metal can from the Pepsi factory that held flavor syrup. We were eating canned fruit, and it was orange colored, I said it was oranges and my mom said it was peaches.

I have an odd one.

I was two and a half when I watched my grandfather, who was cleaning out our gutters, have a heart attack and fall off the ladder he was working on. He died.

No one believes that I remember this, but I distinctly recall what I was wearing, the weather, and the fact that my sister told me that she had to "go to the store to buy some Oreos" so I had to be babysat by our nextdoor neighbors, who we never got along with.

I guess true horrors or shocks stick with us for the rest of our lives.

(I also remember the last time my mother ever let me have a bottle, and it was about that same time. I wasn't a chronic bottle user, but she did used to give me a bottle and let me watch Captian Kangaroo as part of my nap routine and one day I couldn't get the bottle to work, so she said, "well, maybe you're just too big for bottles anymore" and that was the last time I had a bottle or a nap.)

I frankly think our earliest memories are tied to speech development. Once we are able to reliably associate words to memories, our memory is better able to categorize and communite those memories to us. No scientific data to back me up, but it seems to me that the earlier a person was speaking and reading, the earlier their first memory is.

The first thing I remember from my childhood is watching my baby sister run outside in the freezing cold, with like a foot of snow on the ground, getting the mail BUCK NEKKED! I'm sure I could conjour up memories earlier than that, but that was just so funny that it stands out in my mind. I was five and she was like one or two.

I was in the hospital for an operation at 2 years old. In talking about it once with my Mom, she assured me there was no way I could remember it. I described to her what I remembered and her eyes grew wide and she then recalled it as well. Our neighbor lady brought me a truck to play with, but I threw it against the side of the crib, knowing they would be leaving soon and NOT TAKING ME WITH THEM!

Being cornered by my grandpa's dog. I was only 1yr old and I had a bread roll in my hand and the dog wanted it. So the dog corralled me into the corner of the house until he stole the bread roll from me.
