My partner tells me that murder would show a lifetime commitment "as you would go to jail for life".
Should I be scared??!!??

You could have a pagan ritual. It's not legally binding-so there are no certificates, legal hoo haa,etc...-it just gives you and the person you love the chance to have a little gathering of friends and/or family see you declaring your love and commitment to each other 'as long as love shall live'. (The last bit is a direct quote from a pagan commitment ceremony.) Then you can have the best part-the party!!

Buy a cat/dog/fish/whatever with each other.
Get each other's name tattooed on yourselves.
Wear rings - like a wedding ring but without the wedding.
Have a child together.
Get a portrait done of you two or the whole family.
Buy a boat together.

i guess it is the politically correct statement.. of course u can have the emotional equivalent of a marriage.. a lot of marriages were not legal in the past but i'm sure they loved each other just as much (maybe even more).. a marriage certificate is merely a piece of paper, the true love is shared between 2 ppl.. no government or law can discount that!

I would think that marriage is the only way you can show how much love and respect you have for the one you are with. To show them you want to spend the rest of your life with them, having kids from previous relationships should not determine if you marry again or not!
I hope this helps God Bless and Good Luck!

surely being in a long-term steady relationship it's commitment enough - people don't necessarily need to sign a contractual document in order to show commitment. you either want to be in a relationship or you don't.

take her somewhere nice.. you each write your feelings about each other.. at sunset on a beach maybe.... look into each others eyes and tell the other how you feel.. you can have others to witness or just the 2 of you...
