My friend recently went out for a night on the town. Now her husband says it's his turn "what's good for the goose is good for the gander". I say he used the wrong phrase because she is not his mother.

A gander is a male goose. The young are called goslings.In any case....with his attitude.....I see it as ......someone's goose or gander is gonna be cooked.

His interpretation is more accurate than yours. His is the original meaning of the saying. The idea is that there aren't different rules for men and women or for other people than yourself. It is an idea of universality, humans are alike and have the same needs, wants, and dreams and all deserve respect.
