I have to laugh when someone calls Jefferson, Lincoln, Franklin and Washington liberals and Hitler, Brezhnev, Mao, and Amin conservatives. Lincoln and Washington et al. believed in individual freedom, Hilter and Amin and their ilk believed in control by the state. Now, let's see, which side of the aisle wants essential portions of the economy (things like health care, retirement, education) controlled by the state and to make sure that the people aren't armed so that they can resist government intrusion and which side would prefer that the people have the freedom to control those things themselves?

For today's liberals, who basically want a society controlled by the federal government, to even consider themselves to be of the same vein as Washington or Lincoln is an insult.

There is no specific incident in question, so you disguise a foregone conclusion as a question about a generality, and invite answers that are unsupportable expressions of prejudice, because that is the only kind that will fit the adolescent structure of your question.

The same way John Mccain goes through Bagdad protected by 100 soldiers, full armor, and with the streets emptied beofre him and calls Iraq "safe"?

The same way Bush sees the world supporting his actions by barring protesters within 10 blocks of his appearances?

Reply to ladsmrt: First off Lincoln was a conservative/republican, and as for the founding fathers, they were classical liberals which resembles the libertarian views of today.
