If not, how is it different from eating a pork chop? I'm looking for well-reasoned answers.

Pigs and cows can make good pets too. There was once a pig that saved her owner from a heart attack.

It's all about sentimental attachment. Most people find dogs to be steadfast, loyal, and companionable. Most people also find pigs to be smelly, disgusting, and unfit for companionship.

On a rational level, I'm aware that pigs are at least as smart, if not smarter, than cats or dogs. On a visceral level, though, a dog is a friend (potentially), while a pig is a meal. I think that pigs have been regarded as food for so long in the US, while the consumption of cats, dogs, and horses is looked at with disgust that people adopt these views without taking any time to analyze them.

It's worth noting that most people that have pet pigs often stop eating pork entirely.

To answer your question, no. I might kill a dog, cat, or horse out of necessity, but I wouldn't knowingly eat one.

In some of the Asian countries, dog is regularly eaten. I had some in Korea as a replacement for beef. And being a little grittier was just as good. They surved it with customary herbs and spices. But just to eat a dog chop, eeeeeehhhhh, I don't really think it would be that tasty, especially since I am so accustomed to beef, chicken, pork and fish. Rabbit (chocolate or otherwise) along with squirrel and other game animals is good. Don't know, can't say, that if given the chance I would even try a dog chop.

With as much time as I spent in the Far East, I probably have. Rat burgers are also a distinct possibility as Paddy Rats were quite common fare inThailand and Vietnam while I was there. Korea, China and the Phillipines are known for using dog in their cooking. The French love their horsemeat, and Bubba loves his squirrel, opossum and racoon. In the Southwestern U.S., Armadillo is often referred to as 'possum on the half shell. Speaking of half shell, many people consider raw oysters a delicacy, and some places they even like snails, crickets, grasshoppers or certain grub worms. People eat what ever is readily available and non-poisonous. Believe me, if you are ever suffering from hunger, that is, truly bone skinny starving, you won't turn your nose up at anything.

I feel sick at the thought of it. Dogs are pets, they're not bred for food, like cows, pigs, sheep, etc. Besides, there's not as much meat on them
