Or just a new switch? My key is very worn, and I don't have a spare. I put wd40 in the keyhole and I got it to start yesterday, but today I haven't tried as hard as I did yesterday. BUT, I am going to try really hard to get it running once more to take it to the shop.

Also oklatom, if I get a new cylinder what do you mean about the security?

A good lock smith or the dealer can make a new key for you with the VIN and proof of ownership.

As far as security, look at your key. If it has a chip on it it probably has a security system on the car that would have to be reprogrammed with a new key. The dealer (or locksmith) would be able to tell you. See http://www.jetro.go.jp/en/market/trend/topic/2004_08_immobilizer.html for more on that subject.

NEVER NEVER use WD-40 on your key. Dry graphite only please.

If just the key is worn, not the cylinder, you might get by with just the key.

try WD 40 again,
and a couple of drops, of automatic transmission fluid.

according with the information ,You have provide, the key system is good and it's works.
the thing, has dirty,inside .

if that where in the shop,I would blown the dusty corrosion with the compressed air in the shop lines.150 psi.
that is ,before the oily things.

if it's an older car, its cheaper to go ahead and replace the cylindar. Instead of pulling the cylindar and having a key made.

Sounds like you just need a new cylinder.

You should only need the ignition "tumbler" and new key, as the switch is separate...usually!
