or is it just that women are unable to understand the fact that attractiveness is far more important as a trigger to arousal than it is for women.

is this why some women unrealistically expect a man to still desire them [note once again im talking of desire not love--however much theyre linked] when they change out of all proportion to what they were like to begin with

You've answered your own question in your explanation. Most women expect their men to still desire them with flabby bodies because we generally don't mind when they put weight on ... so it's easy for us to mistakenly assume that our men would apply the same emotional logic.

However, as you have pointed out yourself, physical factors make more of a difference for a man, and less for a woman. It is a well-known theory in social anthropology that men are more concerned with physical attributes in long-term mates: how a woman looks, if she appears youthful and shows signs of health and fertility. Whereas women are more likely to look for a long-term mate who can offer security and resources.

That's the theory anyway, as for my personal opinion, no I would not expect my man to still desire me if I got really flabby, but I would expect a wee bit of tolerance especially if the flab/loose skin and stretch marks were due to me having his kids!

I don't expect him to he just does,hes a keeper! =)
Whoa the ladies really slammed ya huh? well we all know when its true love & desire involved nothing can remove that,...if it does happen then the relationship wasn't meant to be anyway..I know men are more "visual" when it comes to that, and I am sure some
feel the need for a "good bodied" woman, salute to them as well...
a body gets flabby with age no matter how much exercise you do,its mother nature's way of reminding us we are all human..

We don't or at least i don't, that is why i work out on a daily basis, i realize that I don't desire men after they get flabby and i plan to always be desireable to the man who is lucky enough to keep me. Size 3 and plan to stay there.

That door swings both ways! Men can get flabby, bald and unable to " take care of business". That's why OLDER women go for YOUNGER men.

well in a commited long term relationship, love and desire should be going hand in hand. I mean you can desire someone who is not as good looking as society would dictate they should be. I mean if you are having these issues, then you a bit shallow. again love and desire are together in a relationship.
