Choose to be happy.... strive to achieve what you need to accomplish.

I think happiness is a choice, that we to often allow to be determined by our circumstances. We can have bad things happen, and still find the light in the darkness. A thankful heart is a happy heart. A forgiving heart is one free from the torment of bitterness. A loving heart is free from the depression and solitude of apathy.
I know there are times where we all must strive, but we must not lose heart in the process. For if we do, we lost all sense of happiness.

Put yourself in a position where happiness can find you...here are a couple of suggestions:

Love yourself. How do you do that? Start with the basics. If you love someone you want the best for them. So eat healthy foods, exercise, get enough rest. Take care of your physical self. Then take care of your inner self. Say nice things about yourself. Focus on your strengths, accept your flaws without judgement. Do things you like. Treat yourself to something nice every day. Even if it's just some small silly thing. Don't engage in bad habits. Don't destroy yourself with addictions to unhealthy substances (cigarettes, drugs, alcohol. Even food can be an addiction. Overeating fatty foods is the reason North Americans suffer from obesity. Obesity is one of the top killers. & guess what? It also does a number on your self-esteem.)

Other things you can do: take a walk in the woods. Sit by the lake. Watch the sun rise or set. Enjoy the beauty & tranquillity of nature. Do something fun. Do you have hobbies? There must be something you like to do? Then do it! Follow your dreams. Even if they seem impossible there are little things you can do (if you wanted to be a racecar driver, which is a bit of a stretch, you can try to work in the industry or you can do little things like getting tickets to an F1 race, ride in go-karts, read books on it, watch races on tv etc.) Whether you like cooking, gardening, art, music, whatever it is, do that! So many people spend their lives doing things they hate (working at stressful jobs they dislike -- welcome to my Hell! doing chores that are unpleasant etc) and they don't take the time to do things they love. So no wonder they're unhappy! We all have unpleasant things that have to be done so get those done but always make sure to take a little time for yourself. Even if it's just a few minutes to meditate, relax & reflect. Take a mental vacation. Daydream. Go to a happy place! If you could be anywhere on earth, where would it be. Then visualize yourself there. Make it vivid. If you keep at it, your imagination is powerful, you will feel better. If you visualize it enough you may even find that it comes true! Never underestimate the power of thoughts. Negative thoughts make you unhappy & attract negative things to you. Positive thoughts make you happy & attract good things to you.

Happiness is a choice. Once you recognize that, it is life changing. So much of my life I was negative. I expected the worst & unwittingly made it happen. Once I made the mindshift & believed the best about myself and life, wonderful things began to happen.

Go after your dreams. You can make them true.

Love yourself, others & the world. Fill your heart with love. Do things you love. You can't help but be happy then.

Good luck.
(I shouldn't say that though because there is no luck. You create your own luck).

Take care.
:)

Get a pen and paper together and write down your goals in life that you see yourself fulfilling!

Work out then what you really would like to have! Not what you would have to work at getting. Just what would be nice to have in your possession. Then write down how you would go about producing that. From this you will no doubt work out what that 'doingness' would have to be!

I'm sure you will have found a close resemblance to your 'striving of happiness!'

do excessively big strides! ha ha nah that wasnt funny. i had a major burnout during my GCSEs and i swear if someoelse had told me to strive to be happy i would have shot them! i believe that you need to set yourself some life goals, i dunno visit antartica, feed a giraffe whatever takes your fancy really, but you need to do thing that make you feel good inside. striving to be happy is a bit excessive because in my opinion it means put yourself out to be happy, and sometimes trying to be happy is a pain in the bum!
so how can you strive to be happy? just be happy when you feel like it! simple!

find inner peace, realize what makes you, "you" and be ok with that, set goals for yourself(realistic ones that you can meet), dont set yourself up for disappointment... it takes a special kind of person to be "truly happy" strive to be that kind of person...

"Happiness is a journey, not a destination."

It's easier said than done, but if you do something with all your heart, are sincere in all your words and efforts, and are free of expectations, you will definitely be happy.
