Simple answer, God does not exist. He is merely a hope for people to cling on to.
Just look at the past, early man could not deal with eternity, so we invented time and calenders so each day was different.
Having conquered that, we couldn't deal with death being the end so we invented god and an after life.
God is merely something to turn to when your chips are down, almost like an imaginary friend that in some cases gives you courage and motivation.
Its interesting that the bible sees us as gods "subjects", isn't slavery wrong?
Also, another flaw with the god theory is that he started our race with adam and eve, who then had two sons, the question now is, who bore cain and abels offspring, logic says there mother!! Uugh!!
Every part of the bible is a contradiction, read it and see, god does not exist but human creativity does.

Just for tonight?
You're asking a very old question. Epicurus is famous for having coined it in these eloquent terms:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil?
That was about 2 500 years ago. So the chances someone will give you a truly satisfactory answer before you go to bed tonight are not very good. I would suggest medication if this is really stopping you from sleeping.
One answer proposed was that of Leibniz, who said: We live in the best of all possible worlds. According to him, the obvious answer is that a better world than this one is just simply not possible, since God is as perfect as can be.
Puzzled? Don't be. He also believed there was no such thing as a cause and an effect. Things just happened independently of one another and God just made it so they seemed to make sense, in order not to confuse us. In other words, if you hit your toe and it hurts, the pain has nothing to do with the impact. God just made it appear so in order to give you the comfort of a consistent world. Yes, Leibniz was completely crazy. And that's the guy that came up with the most plausible answer to your question.

The game plan isn't water tight. God never said his plan was water tight. His game plan is to give us the ability to make choices in life; whether we choose to believe in him or not. However, to be honest with you, no one can answer your question except for what you decide to believe. It's all on you to decide the type of relationship you want to have with Him or some other supreme being you want to worship.
Sorry, I can't go beyond this because I don't know and struggle with the same question(s). However, I do know the state of mind one has does plays a vital role in determining whether he goes to bed happy or sad. Maybe you need to look at your own life, examine your beliefs and then pursue an avenue that you think will make you happy. Perhaps if you pray to who ever you happen to believe at the time will give you some answers and direction.
Each of us are looking for answers to questions similar to yours. I am inclined to think that who ever we believe in ( Jesus, Buddha, Allah, etc), we are all after the same thing.
This is the best answer I can give at the time.

Oh, lets not get to involved with this modern God. We don't even know 100 % what he looks like or if he's male or female. Take the Norse-God Odin for example. He is always pictured as a greying man with an eye-patch riding a eight legged horse ( so much more interesting than Christian religion) Apart from one picture of God as a naked bearded man, I haven't seen much else of what the dude actually looks like.
But to answer you question, it's obvious. He finds it much more interesting to watch us do strange and horrid things. I mean, what would you rather watch for all your immortal years? Tellytubbies or Saving Private Ryan?

God treats us as our parents do in a sense. Our parents are not out to make little robots, but to raise children that will have ideologies and ideas that will ultimately lead to the choices they make in life. God created us with a free will and he would never force anyone to do his will. There is an option in life you can CHOOSE to follow God or you can CHOOSE not to. The consequences are the effect to that choice. If you choose to follow God you will still have bad things happen in life, because humans are not perfect and that's just life. But if you are following God he will help your through you life and make it a very rewarding experience.
I believe that in a sense a person can have a rewarding life without God, but its what comes after life is over that really counts anyway, but I think that is a totally different conversation.

The devil was the right hand of God and had the knowledge of good and evil but he thought that he could rule the universe without God.Our heavenly father knowing this made him a fallen angel. Now by Adam and Eve disobeying him his commands they were kicked out of the garden before they could eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.In God's heart was always the desire to create us but he didnt want us to be like the devil, full of pride. Now we are in the Battlefield and you having free will have to decide whose side you are on.Its a hard battle but those who walk with him have the assurance to be strenthen by the holy spirit.
My point is that your connection to heaven has been cut off.If God was to let you into his presence right now he would have to kill you because you are unclean.Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.The more you seek him the more he reveals himself to you.He is all around you but you are blind to him,let him take the veil off your eyes, only he can do it.the world is his enemy, seperate yourself from it.

The greatest mistake of all is personalising Good and evil, God and devil, and placing them in some kind of space outside of us (above or under). The thing is they are both - in us! God (as well as the opposite) is in everyone of us, He is with us and around us at all times. we are not the third part in that "game", we are first and second , we are good and evil, WE ARE! It is not God as an independent force working outside of our will and thought, and it is not some kind of creature with horns making all the "troubles" around us. This is us as ONE human soul, breathing and living on Earth, who makes the choice to do good and evil. Every time you let a thought of "braking" somebodies neck for a parking space into your mind (well, nearly...) - you let the evil grow. We are allowing it to exist. Because we are ONE.

maybe god wants people to stop the war, poverty, rage and be happy on there own like good people should do without relying on him/her/it to make things happen for them.... god is not this magical being that's just gunna shine down and make the world a better place... he/she/it wants people to be good people on there own and stop the bullshit and actually live like human beings... people are so selfish, everyone always want everything handed to them well people you have to WORK HARD to make this a better world life isnt that bad, it might seem like things will never get better but you gotta push thru the negativity and keep TRYING to make life work..... sorry for going off it's just a theory...

Why does God allow evil? Because HE created evil! "I form the light and create darkness. I make peace and create evil. I, the Lord do all these things." Isaiah 45:7

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!
Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!
Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?
My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:
Do you know how to play safe?
Non-believer's case:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...
Believer's case:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...
Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?
