I think the answers to this question thus far prove your point. Everyone is in such denial of God. Destruction is all over. Hurricanes, tsunamis, terrorism, war, poverty. All the signs are there, and one must remember that all this denial of God and everything that is pure and just is just another sign that this world is headed for disaster.
"I don't think the mythology of a god or supreme deity will lead to our destruction."
Pure denial of the truth. How can you look at this whole entire planet and its wonders and NOT believe in some type of higher being.
"Christianity has been used as a political and economic tool for centuries, my dear. Stay away from it, and keep Christianity out of good government."
I am sure that this Einstein really believes that our government is good. Sit down and have a talk with this person and I will guarantee that they are Anti-Bush.
Bottom line, the ever increasing lack of moral conscience is to blame for the destruction of our world. People have no moral compass anymore. They do as they please, and live like they will never die. Yet, to look at this world, one must really contemplate exactly how much this lack of morality effects us in our everyday lives. With everything that is going on in the world, I can't see myself living without the knowledge of a higher being. It is that and that alone that makes me feel somewhat protected in this jungle we call the world.

Not only America, but the entire world is headed for destruction. According to Bible Prophecy we are headed that way. And it is not gloom & doomer if you believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son & the Holy Spirit, only if you are of Satan, now that is gloom & doom!
Anti-Christ will be many to come. All more deceitful than the last. Many will not know the differences between evil spirits or good spirits. Many will be deceived for the only way to know the difference is to be filled with the Spirit of God. The horror that will take place is beyond human conception. Only those that are saved will see the Glory of the Lord & to live without war, without poverty, without pain, without darkness & no more missing children.
To be in Heaven will be the most awesome experience.
Read Revelation Chapters 21 & 22.

Religion is frequently the source of human differences (from individual to cultural) that leads to divisions, and too often, war.
Faith-based governments have utterly failed in too many ways.
Some type of coalesence between a consciousness-based faith (I would suggest Zen Buddhism - read up on it) and Science may be the better way.
Mind and matter - let the individual choose what type of "God" is on top.
Religion, as it is practiced today, is far more divisive than unifying, unfortunately.
Lastly, I'm no Buddhist, but there are far more Buddhists than Christians in the world - and Buddhists don't generally go tens of thousands of miles like Christian countries do, to dominate weakling countries for their wealth - but that's another topic.
Chrisitanity has been used as a political and economic tool for centuries, my dear. Stay away from it, and keep Christianity out of good government.

thinking the actuality that christers watch more advantageous porn, and get more advantageous divorces than do non believers, that's truly humorous besides as being willfully ignorant. -If one argues, as some deeply religious persons do, that without God there would properly be no best correct and incorrect - fairly that God determines for us what's nice and incorrect - that's basic to then ask the question: what's God decreed that rape and homicide were morally perfect ? could that lead them to so ? even as some would answer definite, i imagine maximum believers could say no, God does no longer make one of those decree. yet why no longer ? probably because God could have some *reason* for no longer making one of those decree. back, probably it really is because *reason* means that rape and homicide are literally not morally perfect. yet when God could could charm to *reason*, then why no longer get rid of the intermediary totally ?- Lawrence Krauss, A Universe From no longer something, Pgs 171-172.

The world has been heading in that direction for a looooonnngg time. Read the Bible, mass wars, false governments, fake gods all of it is coming true. I'm a Baptist Christian I believe in the Bible and the ten commandments but, too many people don't. They don't like the word religion until they rewrite the Bible to suit them.

I don't think the mythology of a god or supreme deity will lead to our destruction. People will. I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in people.
