Depends upon the situation....I kw well enough about meds and my own health to go straight in, wait a few days or even try to gut out the pain.....OTC is at least honest...Doctors are NOT.....OTC tho honest, can be quite ineffective....so can most generics..i did a whole column on that here and got hate mail.....up to the individual....I have had an ambulance leave me on my porch while Iwas really ill saing it wasn't life threatening, and it took me 40 minutes to get back upstairs...I was in searing pain......so this..is entirely subjective.

I load up on OTC meds, I do not like running to the doctor for every sniffle I have.

i make an appointment with the doctor for the next day and while i'm waiting for the next day to come i load up on OTC meds.

I will try to 'tough it out' then if it does not get better the OTC meds, I very rarely ever go to the Doctor...

Most things are minor viruses that just need to run their course. Like colds. So I just use OTC meds and wait it out.

OTC meds first,if I can't shake whatever I have then I'll head to the Doc!!

Neither, I usually wait it out, drinking lots, resting and supplementing, occassionally I will use a homeopathic remedy if deemed necessary depending on the illness.
I don't believe in covering up symptoms with drugs (otc's or prescription)!
