Also, what is the haploid number for humans? What is the diploid number for humans?

I have that twenty three pairs of chromosome (46 altogether) is the diploid (2n) number. Half this number is the haploid (n) number)

but does that mean the actual diploid number is 23 or 46?

Haploid - sperm cells (in the male)and egg cells (in the female). They divide to create more sperm cells and egg cells (haploid).

Diploid - reproduction - the coming together of egg cell + sperm cell = create a new individual cell is now diploid that divides and creates a new being.

In simplest form:

The only human haploid cells are the eggs and sperms (the gametes).
Every other human cell is diploid, including the cells in the reproductive organs that make the eggs and sperms.

In humans, n = 23. The haploid number is 23. It's the number of different kinds of chromosomes we have.

In humans, 2n=46. The diploid number is 46. It's the number of chromosomes we have in each cell since we have two of each kind.

Human Life Cycle Stages

All stages of human life cycle except formation of gamets i.e. formation of sperms and eggs are diploid.

Diploid mean 23 pair
haploid means 23 only (not paired) You know, two chromosomes are joined laterally, called a pair of chromosome.
In haploid case, the chromosomes are not joined.

During formation of gamets, the pairing is not there, one pair chromosome splits into two chromosomes. One goes to each daughter gamets.
