I am going to put it in a 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible which weighs 5500 lbs. Ram Jet 502, makes 510 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 550 Ft/Lbs of torque at 4500 RPM. The LS7- 7.0 Liters (427 cubic inches) and big-block power at 500 hp at 6200 rpm. It also benches 475 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. 502 has a 5800 redline. The LS7 has a 7200 redline. I'm putting a 700r raptor automatic transmission in it. Which would be the better motor? Reliabilty, weight for this car, performance, aesthetic's?

The LS7 is by no dout the best engine from chevy. And this is a long line of excellent ones.

1. 502 big block
2. LS7 small block
3. big block weighs between 75 to 130 pounds more than a small block
4. in the long run, performance upgrades for LS7 will be less money for the bang

Did you know that a 1967 Lincoln 460 engine that probably will bolt right in has 345 hp with 500 lbs of torque.And with a set of shaved heads :.030 and bigger valves(easily machined ) a torqueier cam that will still work well with an automatic,an Eldobrack carb or a Holley 750 double pumper and a manifold (aftermarket) or even a 427-428-429 Ford block will fit right in ? I don't have my Motors Manual handy or I could give ya some better stats. But if I were you I would stick to something that will be less hassle to drop in and still give ya what ya want and look original. Cause original is what is bringing the BIG BUCKS! When I was in high school between my junior and senior yr I worked at a Caddy dealership and we had everything from Olds 88& 98 Rockets,Buicks 225 and Grand Sports and Lincolns.both Contintentals and Mark 4 and 5's and this was in the early 70's (1973) and let me tell ya those Lincolns would roll!!!! Onething was that back then with 10 gal of gas it didn't last long and premium gas was better then what it is now.So,Why not stick with what came in it or even an upgrade witha a little boring and stroking keep the# original as that is what makes the 60's classics worth more. Aluminum heads are also available for these engines if ya want to lighten them up as well as the intakes

A short deck big block with aluminum heads weighs 515 lbs. The 502 is a tall deck and it would weigh at least 40-50 lbs. more with aluminum heads.

The LS7 comes in at 380-400 lbs. tops. If you have the new GM Performance Catalog part No. 19170580 there is a picture of an LS7 complete with a aluminum intake manifold and a race prepped Holley with vacuum secondary carb. There's no choke as the horn is removed. I see no mechanical linkage on the left hand side. I am somewhat stumped however as I don't see a vacuum diaphragm on the right side. I've heard you can buy one of these beasts for well under $15.000.

your best bet would be the LS7 the engine it self is built a lot better then the 502 and it ts lighter also. a buddy of mine has put a ls7 in his trans-am and has since then put 80000 miles on it and it still runs as good as the day he put it in.
