my friend bought this glass top electric range used and it seems to be, beyond cleaning it any other way. It had not been taken care of and it had burnt foods on it. Any thing anyone can help with will truly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No it shouldn't. I've used oven cleaner to do the same without a problem.

A razor window scraper works wonders too. A new blade. Not some old nicked up thing.

Bon Ami and Bar Keeper's Friend are 2 low abrasive cleansers that are recommended by glass top stove makers.

I have a glass top range and I love it! It's much easier to clean than normal ranges and here's how I keep it clean (even after there is spilled cooked-on food on it!)

1. Get it really wet and wash it with dishwashing liquid.
2. Scrub with a sponge (one side a green scrubbing side and the other a sponge - use the green side and do it while the dishwashing soapy liquid is still on.
3. Wipe off all the water and soap.
4. Use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to remove any excess cooked on food. It works great!

Enjoy the shiny surface all the time!

I don't think glass will normally react to anything in a oven cleaner. However I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of the range to verify they approve of it.

there is a product called cerma-brite that is sold in places that sell glass tops that is made for cleaning glass/ceramic top stoves.
It is recommended that you use a straight razor to gently scrape off dried foods.

Easy Off now makes a special cleaner for glasstop stoves. I would worry about residue if using the regular oven cleaner.

I don't think so, but you can try the Easy Off in a corner, in the back (just in case). Good luck!

Would this work?

Try 409. If that doesn't work try one of those Mr. Clean erasers. It will work.
