I don't know that I'm fully convinced that people have soulmates or even soulfriends.

I believe that many, including myself (see my Answers profile) live a life of quiet desperation. I agree with the article you have cited for the most part. I believe that what the author calls "soulfriends" are actually multiple soulmates. (See my earlier answer about "*a* right choice vs *the* right choice")

I believe though, that when you encounter a soulmate, you have no choice but to hold up your present existing relationship and compare and contrast it to that which you would have with your soulmate.

Half of marriages in the US end in divorce, I believe, because people settle. Or they're ignorant of their soulmate's existence. Or they foolishly try to deny that the concept of soulmates...if they search their feelings, they know it to be true.

Yes, we all long for something. Most of us don't even really know what it is that is missing from our lives, only that there is a void, itch, or a yearning. When this urge is felt some of us seek religion, others seek new companions (divorce has been made too easy), others turn to drugs and alcohol, some even seek hobbies, while others live vicariously through their children. I'm 49 and still looking for my soul mate. I haven't found her yet but I've learned to still be happy. Peace.

In affluent societies, yes. The people in these societies get duped into believing that more wealth will make them happy. So they spend their lives striving for the wrong things. As the French journalist said after visiting America, "Americans work at jobs they can't stand to buy things they don't need to impress people they don't like."

It depends on the individual if they don't continue to learn, grow and experience then I agree with your question. It is important to continually grow mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally as one is on life's journey on planet earth... One ought to develop hobbies and interests and socialize with others as they age.. It is also vital to have faith, hope and love in someone or something......To have friends, you must first be a friend.....I believe that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated......

Yes and they hide it because they think that no one will care. I do believe in SoulMates. But as a parallel, hiding it will not bring them to you.

Yeah I do.. Society tends to define the individual, rather than each individual defining society. The human spirit is still oppressed..
