Doesn't bother me in the least. In a free country, same sex couples should be allowed the same benefits as couples of the opposite sex. I see this as Gay's fighting for one reason and the religious right fighting back for a totally different reason. I'm not homosexual but I imagine that they'd like to have the same financial benefits to marriage that us heteros enjoy. The same health insurance benefits, tax benefits, rights to a partner when they are ill, shared parenting rights. I see the religious right fighting some kind of morality battle. This makes no sense to me because these couples are already living together, they already participate in our society, they are not going away. I think as people there are so many other important issues we could tackle together. I'm more concerned that 4000 children die per hour on our planet from famine and disease than gay marriage. It's time to come together as Americans and focus our energy less on how people live their personal lives, and more on what we can do to put an end to some of the horrible things that happen both here and abroad.

As another participant once replied,"Homosexuals have been denied the equal right to marry for so long that many have grown to aspire to marriage as a triumph over being regarded as fourth class citizens their entire lives. Heterosexuals have had the luxury of taking marriage for granted."

If someone feels that the stability or "sanctity" of their marriage relationship is seriously threatened by gay marriage, perhaps they have other deeper issues.

Any couple of any gender that can keep a relationship together for 7 years is "beating the odds" for divorce.

Face the ugly statistics; heteros have not done all that well in keeping things together. Why should they claim the right to set standards?

12 reasons why gay people should not be allowed to get married:

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America, and that’s why Atheists and Agnostics are not allowed to get married either.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

I think it's great for people who are homosexual or bisexual. I don't think there is anything wrong with it and I certainly don't believe that marriage is some sort of divine sanction. Clearly, scientific, historical and anthropological evidence suggests otherwise. Marriage was around long before Christianity.

I think that the same sex marriage debate, is silly and based on fairy tale and prejudice. Any reasonable human would know that same sex marriage is okay. In my country, Canada, it is legally recognised and for the most part socially acceptable. I'm proud of this as I think same sex marriage or any marriage is part of basic human rights or at least in cultures where heterosexual marriage is recognised as 'something'.

We'll for starters, over time if we continue to allow immoral acts, what do you think would happen to world population and the human race? We didn't have it 200 years ago and we don't need it today.
Where do you draw the line? who do people say what love is when they step out of moral boundaries, Heck then someone can marry there dog and have sex with them in the future, why not, they say they love them, get the point? or how about, when a full grown man loves a 5 year old girl, they say they love each other, why cant they have sex and get married then? If we allow these choices now , we will have to allow all of it in the future. that would be wrong!

Be careful what you wish for. Same sex marriage is what can happen to those who believed Woody Allen when he said that being AC/DC doubles your chances of getting a date on Saturday nights.

I think it should be allowed, if they want to call it a civil union instead of "marriage" then that is fine. Works out the same way.

Why can't gays be allowed to have the same privilege of having their heart ripped out and finances destroyed by marriage like everyone else? Just not fair if you ask me.

I am not for it, but it is what it is. A same sex marriage couple adopting and raising a child on the other hand has my strong opposition.

Nothing at all wrong with more people publicly declaring their solid commitment to each other. There can only be good in it. This world needs *more* stability & love.
