Nancy Pelosi (quoting)
The funny thing is, I think we may have even had a more powerful impact with our message because of the attention that was called to our trip," she said. "It became clear to President Assad that even though we have our differences in the United States, there is no division between the president and the Congress and the Democrats on the message we wanted him to receive.
Reality.
27 Billion of pork adding on to the bill is NOT a message of troop support, its anything but.
again quoting
What others were saying and doing was many miles away, in a different time zone and had no impact on our trip except to call more attention to it," Pelosi said.
Reality...
Other people who have violated the logan act in the past surely have felt the same way, the actions were still illegal and DIck Cheney said it best...
"bad behavior" on her part to try to broker a deal between the two — a sensitive matter that would be considered the sole province of the executive branch.

Its called pragmatism and the president could learn a lot about it from his father. In fact, it would be helpful if he took more account of his father and less of Cheney, who has his own agenda, not necessarily one that is the same as the US's foreign policy.
The message is already out there on the results of terrorism and has been for more than 50 years. For the first 40 years of its existence, Israel was led by former terrorists. Google things like the Stern gang. No one in the US, either Republican or Democrat, had problems doing business with those terrorists. So why the big to do now?

A) Pelosi's trip was a signal to the Middle East that there are still some people (in our government) who believe in dialogue and diplomacy.
B) You make a big DEAL about money going to farmers in the West recovering from the ice snap and e.coli outbreak, and the victims of Katrina--but never complained once when the GOP loaded their spending bills in 2005 with 1300+ pork projects of their own totalling over $50B dollars?
Wow. I know I did.
C) The Logan Act only pertains to PRIVATE citizens making contact with foreign governments WITHOUT prior approval of the US government.
It does NOT APPLY to government officials on diplomatic trips. Pelosi is well within her rights to go--as Speaker of the House.
Nor is it the sole province of the executive branch--seeing that Bush doesn't want to engage in "talk" with other countries.

If the executive branch of government were doing its job, it would be competent and successful in foreign affairs. Unfortunately it has utterly failed and our foreign affairs are in ruins. It is necessary for the good of the country that somebody try to salvage what is left of American influence in world affairs.
The highest authority in this Republic is not the elected executive, or even the elected Congress. The highest authority is We the People. The government, including all its branches, is not your master, it is your servant. The government has no "rights," it has only "powers", which are assigned to it by We the People for specific purposes.
Recently the government has failed to serve us adequately. The executive led us into a quagmire and the Congress stupidly went along with this suicidal plan like a bunch of sheep or like cattle on the way to the slaughterhouse.
It is time for the highest authority, We the People, to step in and rescue our country from the incompetent fools who have placed us on the road to national disaster.
We are not at war with Syria, and will not be at war unless Congress (not the executive) says so. Therefore any citizen has the the right to go there and seek to establish dialog.
In light of the utter failure of the executive to deal with the foreign policy disasters it created, a rescue mission by the members of Congress is desirable and helpful for the preservation and protection of America.
Be thankful for the good work of Nancy Pelosi and Darrell Issa.
Wise people know that talking to your friends doesn't do much good. You have to talk to your adversaries.

To a certain exten it will send mix signals between Assad administration and George Punker playboy Saddam Bush because ppl think this mya cause warmer ties to grown between out nation and Syria. But the truth it isn. and Punker Bush does not want that because he thinks Assad's country is related to Herzbolla, Al qaeida as well as well as a haven for sponsering other terrorist.n
Pelosi trip is actually set the tone for the next administration which is likely to come froma Democrat Obama Clinton or Edwards/The democratic have shown to have more of a moderate stand as compared to Bush.We can see that from Clinton dealings with Iran when he was in office. As well as that, the future united states administratiob would like to establish closer ties with the Arabs nations knowing that under Bush, relations were bad between them and America. Pelosi actualy hopes to us this trip as to achieve a few agendas. One to set the tone of frendler nations for the future administartion of the US after Bush in 2008.America has realised that even a big and might country llike her acnnot do without its allies. After all Sryria too help america in some way like oil and expetise in science and technology.Also.Pelosi hopes to convince Assad to stop hiding terrorist and stop givings upport to Herzbolla and other terrorist which Israel and other european nations see as terorist organisation. She hopes though thsi vist assad can convince them to stop attacking civilans and start with a peace treaty with israel so that the ppreacful resolution of Palestinians can be solved
So actually Pelosi is doing two things killing two birds with one stone saving America face on the front. It's image is very battled and as well increase the chance of soembody from her party being the next United states of America.God bless America and no place else

First of all I think your question is wrong, because it is full of pre-judgement and pre-conceived ideas...
Assad does not sponsor terrorist.. because what you call a terrorist, 99% of the People in the middle east including Christians call Freedom Fighters..... To them Israel violated, stole their land, killed their children, and enslaved them. To most people the are defending their land, and their freedom... The fact that your country calls them terrorists does not make them one...
I know I won't convince you, because of what you have been raised to believe.... As you know, America Gets its news from 4 big Corp. Look at who owns them, and what information they want to feed you...
As Rosie O'Donnel said, if you want to learn about America go out and hear the news about it from outside... Cause you r not getting anything from here... I lived in Europe before coming to the States, and been to Australia, Africa, East Asia and the middle east... I can tell you.... The average American is the Most Un-educated and less informed.... They are only better than some of the African Countries that have no TVs, internet, not even Radios...

- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify.
- Most number of witnesses or those that are proving to be a embarrasment to die suddenly, like "Kenny Boy" Lay.
- First president that needs to be sued for harassment of common sense and morality.
- First president accused of raping Christanity and blantantly pandering to ignorant mean spirited neocons for political gain.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation for killing a driver in a suspicious auto accident as a Teen.
- Holds all likehood of recieving hundreds of millions in illegal campaign contributions.
- First soon to be ex-President who may very well need to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in wide contempt for having no grasp or respect of the US Constitution.
- Supporter of the greatest and largest explotation of illegal immigrants for the benefit of his corporate supporters.
- Greatest amount of campaign contributions from corporate cronies and other morally deficient CEO lackys.
- First president who is widely known to have snorted coke on many occasions in the 1970's while avoiding Active Duty Military service and could probably drink most under a bar.
Thank you for illustrating graphically what I've been saying all along, that most in the Republican party, especially the neocon nutcases like yourself are out of touch with reality and the feel good tax and spend diatribe they spew hasnt worked since the eighties and wont work now, considering that there is not one sustained thought for the future budget crisis being cause by Bush's uncontrolled spending.
LMAO...have a blessed day you ____State Department troll.
