At one time many public offices did not make you rich to hold it was an honor and a privelage to be in that postion. Now you could feed a starving country or help the homeless, better protect our borders, or educate our children on a stadard of world class by providing better classrooms supplies, better well paid teachers, and concern for something other than a deplomia that is just a piece of paper with the money spent in a short time by a person running for an office that makes them rich and capable of lying on a grand scale on everything from education to war and tax cuts that only benifit the people with the most money. This is shameful that a person can behave as many of our presidents have and still do & for life recieve the finest health care possible and our aged are ever day decieding if they can afford their Rx's. Many people are making just enough to not recieve any help with health care but can't afford Rx's after getting them.

Umm.. Politians don't get paid much compared to what they can make in private sector. When is the last time your heard someone ditch a private job because he can get a better pay as an office holder?

As for question itself, well, as I see it, there are two main factors, one is the decaying of the democratic system in US, and the other is capitalism run amok. Yet, the two factors goes hand in hand with one another. Both system expect the worst out of the people and set up its respective system to function as a government and an economic system.

This is not to say democratic system and capitalism should be abolished. Yet, if the pitfalls of those system are not made aware of, and be avoided at the same time, you will get the worst of the people as you expected them. Didn't really want to go philosophical on this, but then I don't want to drag on my answer either.

I agree with you on many points- but also, unfortunately, the many, many upstanding political and community workers and professionals that give their time, education and lives to help and better the American peoples are never brought up in the news- wouldn't it be nice to see just an inkling of that too? I would ;like to see a cross reference of more good in the media for things like that and things in Iraq too- just so we all can get a complete picture. We need to know the bad or wrong but we also need to know all the good we do as a people. Have you ever thought what type of a world it would be without America and its money and caring? Even our mistakes can't take that away- it would be nice to see a bit more morality, and care and monetary responsibility though!

I was in agreement with you up to the point that you lost the plot and started to get spiteful about presidents, ALL politicians get paid way to much money, and yes it is disgusting.
