Good question.
Somehow, people hold this belief deep inside. However, depending on their religious background and level of education, their minds start questioning this belief, and a foggy picture of life after death presents itself.
Nevertheless, if there was absolute proof of your continuation after your death, regardless of your religious background and level of education, it is most likely that the unsatisfied, the sick, the depressed .. etc, would prefer to end their pain as soon as possible, hoping their lives after death would be better.

No.
People who are depressed & suicidal hate themselves & have no will to live. It's doubtful that proof of an afterlife would add any incentive to anyone who hadn't already considered taking their own life.
The sad thing is that there is already an epidemic of suicides. There are too many people in the world that are sad, that hate themselves so much that they destroy themselves. Some people feel so overwhelmed by sadness & don't know how to cope. They see no way out. But suicide is never the answer. We must make the most of this life. We are all here for a reason. We must find what that purpose is. First & foremost we have to love ourselves & others. To appreciate the beautiful aspects of life & not be overwhelmed by the ugliness. It is possible to experience sadness without letting it destroy you.
Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary setback. It is giving up too soon. Ending the story before you even got to the next chapter. You never know what wonderful things wait around the bend so you must never give up. Never lose hope.
No matter how bleak you feel, you are not alone. You can survive. You are a beautiful miracle of nature. Enjoy it. Get close to nature. Appreciate the beauty of the earth. People become depressed when they cut themselves off from nature. Nature nourishes the soul.
Yes there is an afterlife. There is a Heaven & Hell. That doesn't mean you should end your physical life before your time. There is some debate over where such souls would go. They may go to purgatory, the waiting room between Heaven & Hell. The commandments are pretty clear, Thou shalt not kill. That includes your own life. Though hopefully God would be more merciful with suicides than homicides, it is still a crime against God, against man & against nature & the universe.
If you have any suicidal thoughts the important thing is to talk to someone you trust. Get help. You are not alone. Call a distress centre.
There are healthier ways to channel that emotion. Write. Paint. Get your feelings out there. Some of the greatest writers & artists in history were the most tortured & unhappy.
You can learn to be happy. It is a choice. You can choose to love yourself, to be positive, to take good care of yourself physically & emotionally. You are not helpless. You have the power to change your life for the better.
Never ever give up.
It gets better.
I promise.

no. I would hope there would be enough cynics out there who believe the "absolute proof" was just a political method to do away with a certain faction of people. Do the best you can while you are here- a lot can be learned from a dying person or animal also- to the very end.

i dont think so,, i think many people do feel sure in their belief of continuing on after they pass from this life,,,,,,,, those in the conditions you mention,,,,, commit suicide , i feel, due to not being able to handle this life anymore,,,,,, where they are going wouldnt make a big difference,,,, its getting out of here that is important
and actually, it might give some hope, and make things here more bearable,,,,,

My faith in Jesus provides absolute proof that there is life after death, but I wouldn't commit suicide. In most religions, suicide is considered a sin.

i dont know. maybe. people who cannot deal with this reality would probably feel most comfortable escaping it to what they may be assured is a better existence.

It would be good.
The idea of life beyond the horizon exists. Do you dare abbreviate your destiny ?

i wouldnt. i dunno.
i dont know if the fear of being dead, or the fear of the actual act of dying frightens ppl.
i dont fear death, just dying. the act of drowning, being killed, strangled.....
if ppl believed that them being alive, contributes to others lives, then they might stick around, but if their lives sucked so badly, they'd off themselves anyhow, whether there is an afterlife or not.
ppl also fear change, and since the bible recons youre gonna end up nice and toasty if you off yourself, they'd propably stick it out till they die on their time.
