Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and is the second largest city in Spain. It is located on the Mediterranean coast ( 41°23′N, 2°11′E) between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs, limited to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge (512 m).
It is a major economic centre, with one of Spain's principal Mediterranean ports and its second largest airport, and also a cultural and tourist attraction. The architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner are particularly renowned, and have been inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
As the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona houses the seat of the Catalan autonomous government, known as the Generalitat de Catalunya, notably its executive branch, the Parliament and the Supreme Court of Catalonia. It is also the capital of the province of Barcelona and of the comarca of the Barcelonès.

In a privileged position on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up Spain.
The capital of Catalonia is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of its geographic location but also and above all because of its history, tradition and cultural influences. The documented history of the city dates back to the founding of a Roman colony on its soil in the second century B.C. Modern Barcelona experienced spectacular growth and economic revival at the onset of industrialization during the second half of the 19th century. The 1888 World's Fair became a symbol of the capacity for hard work and the international outlook projected by the city. Culture and the arts flourished in Barcelona and in all of Catalonia; the splendor achieved by Catalonian modernism is one of the most patent displays.
I hope I helped you.
Cheers.

It is located in southern Spain, in the province called Catalunya. It is very well know for two things as far as the sporting culture goes......1. Formula1/MotoGP Racing Track and 2. FC Barcelona for its players and dedication towards the improvement of the game of Soccer.
Also, traditionally, this place is very interesting with different traditions that u don't see in other parts of Spain!
