10/10 sir. Very good question. The only answer is prejudice, bigotry and bias. I am certain if it was Iranians in British waters they would not be "innocent soldiers" and would definitely be facing a trial. I do not believe that they where 1.7 nautical miles from Iranian waters not for a second. There is film footage of the Captain 3 weeks before they where detained stating they where gathering information for intelligence against the Iranians.
A British citizen!

Iranians fighting in Iraq would be spies or insurgents. Iraqis attempting overthrow the legal government are also insurgents..Bad guys all. The Brits were at worst, in a disputed area, and believe to be in Iraqi waters. GPS seems to indicate the Iranians were in Iraqi waters. What a surprise!!

The Iranian navy had them overpowered. They were of no threat. Most countries would have simply asked them to return to their own territory. The fact is that Iran is at war and is too cowardly to declare war. They Just love taking hostages of non Muslims. the President of Iran foolishly thought he would be a hero for releasing them. Make no mistake Iran is at war. The only question is, when will the fighting break out? Will they be cowards, and simply send more terrorists over, or will they declare it once they have Nukes?

You mean if you are under a UN Mandate in Iraqi Waters inspecting an Indian ship, and you're are kidnapped with overwhelming force by Iranians, that makes you a spy? Only if you're Iranian trying to make a point.

I must have missed the part where the British soldiers strapped bombs to their children and put them on a school bus.
Iran committed an overt act of war.
The sailors - at worst - were in DISPUTED waters.
The kidnapping of those people was an aggressive act aimed at humiliating the British.
Sadly, it worked.

I know you're probably angry about a lot of things. I am too, but we weren't there so let's not be too hasty to judge the real situation.

Terrorist target civilians, which they have been doing. Iran is trying to destroy the freely elected government of Iraq, so they are spies.
